Tucked into West Sedona among the towering red rock formations, The Global Center for Christ Consciousness stands as one of the most distinctive spiritual communities in northern Arizona. Known to many as the former Unity of Sedona and now operating as an autonomous New Thought and New Age spiritual center, the Global Center is the home ministry of internationally recognized teacher and healer Michael Mirdad. It hosts a 10 a.m. Sunday gathering that draws roughly a hundred people in person and several hundred more online, plus a steady rhythm of recovery meetings, Bible studies, healing circles, courses, concerts and the popular Sedona Monthly Intuitive Arts Fair.
Sacred Sunday Services with Michael Mirdad
The week centers on the Sacred Sunday Service at 10:00 a.m., and the order of the morning has a comfortable, predictable rhythm. Attendees gather and greet each other, announcements are shared, and first-time visitors are welcomed by name and presented with a beaded bracelet blessed by the Chaplains. After an opening song, the Spiritual Leader offers the opening prayer and a sacred reading, followed by a special musical piece. Mirdad then delivers the day's message, often described by attendees as spontaneous, channeled and deeply applicable, before a guided meditation. The service closes with music, prayer, and the collection of donations. Most services run about ninety minutes.
The Sunday experience is intentionally expansive. Mirdad's teaching draws on the disciplines of Christ and Buddha, A Course in Miracles, Edgar Cayce, Yogananda, metaphysics, healing and relationships, weaving them into messages that frequently move listeners to tears and laughter in the same sitting. Audience members commonly report emotional release, hands-on healing from the Chaplains after the service, and the occasional sighting of angels and beings of light. Michael Mirdad, the Spiritual Leader
Michael Mirdad is recognized around the world as a teacher of teachers and a healer of healers. He has traveled the globe for more than forty years conducting classes, lectures and workshops on spirituality, healing and the awakening of the Christ within. He is the author of several best-selling titles, including Healing the Heart & Soul, The Dark Night of the Soul, Creating Fulfilling Relationships, The Heart of A Course in Miracles and You're Not Going Crazy... You're Just Waking Up! His work has appeared in Evolve Magazine, Yoga Journal, Sedona Journal and Whole Self Times, and he has spoken at some of the largest spiritual conferences in the world.
At the Global Center, Mirdad leads the Sunday service, facilitates a twice-monthly Spiritual Healing, Counseling and Mentoring circle on the first and third Wednesdays, and offers private sessions, online courses and a monthly written message. He also writes for his own course platform, where his Our Search for God series, his relationship workshops and his products are sold. Attendees frequently note that his messages land far deeper than expected for a single Sunday gathering, a quality one longtime attendee described as five-star talks every week.
A Building Designed for Spiritual Experience
The current property at 100 Northview Road is fifty years newer than the previous home on Deer Trail Drive, and it shows. The Global Center purchased and renovated the building in 2020, and the layout was designed for both large worship gatherings and intimate small-group work.
Inside, visitors find a sanctuary that holds nearly twice the seating of the old building, a much larger stage with professional lighting and a high-quality sound system, and an expanded metaphysical bookstore and gift shop that is twice the size of the previous location. The grounds include a patio area with benches and potted greenery where people gather for conversation after services, a shaded entrance with a fountain, and a backyard that has been developed into a peaceful extension of the property.
The property is also home to a dedicated Crystal Bed Healing Room housed in a round Yurt building, a meeting room used by twelve-step groups and small workshops, and a seven-colored labyrinth at the back of the property. The labyrinth's fan-like center platform allows visitors to choose the chakra of consciousness they most want to work with as they walk, an ancient tool presented in the center as a walking meditation and a yantra or living mandala.
The Metaphysical Bookstore and Gift Shop
Just off the lobby, the Global Center's metaphysical bookstore stocks books, incense, essential oils, jewelry and gifts suited to a New Thought and New Age clientele. It is open year-round and is stocked with Mirdad's own titles, the work of visiting teachers, and spiritual literature from a wide range of traditions. Crystal Bed Healing Room
The Crystal Bed Healing Room is one of the center's signature offerings. Seven highly polished quartz crystals are suspended roughly twelve inches above a massage table, each aligned with one of the seven major chakras and cut to transmit a specific frequency. During a session, colored lights shine through the crystals in rhythmic patterns to cleanse, balance, energize and align the energy body. Soft music is usually played, essential oils may be diffused, and visitors lie face-up with a soft eye cover. No physical touch or massage takes place; the experience is energetic rather than physical.
Sessions are by appointment and are held in the Yurt. Pricing is $25 for twenty minutes, $50 for forty minutes or $75 for sixty minutes. The Global Center recommends wearing white or light-colored clothing for the strongest experience, drinking plenty of water afterward, and resting as much as possible for several hours to integrate the work. Visitors often report visions, encounters with ascended masters, deep relaxation, or simply a sense of renewed connection to the divine.
Ongoing Recovery and Support Groups
The Global Center operates as a hub for the recovery community in West Sedona. The Meeting Room is in use almost every day, and the facility is offered at no charge to twelve-step and other support groups as part of the center's mission of service.
AA Upon Awakening meets in the Meeting Room Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m., giving early risers a place to begin the day with the steps. Co-Dependents Anonymous meets Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and SLAA (Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous) gathers Wednesdays from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Overeaters Anonymous meets Thursdays from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., and Refuge Recovery, a mindfulness-based recovery group, meets Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Safe Passage, a women's support group, gathers on the third Saturday of each month from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. The Global Center also hosts Living A Course in Miracles on Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the Choose Again Circle, a Monday-night group that uses the Six Steps to Freedom process to identify and release inner barriers to peace, meets in the Meeting Room from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. by donation.
On Thursday evenings, the outdoor fire pit becomes the meeting place for Sedona Sages / Mankind Project, a men's group that meets from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m.
Classes, Workshops and Courses
Beyond the Sunday service and the recovery groups, the Global Center offers a full slate of educational opportunities. The most ambitious ongoing offering is Our Search for God: A Monthly, 12-Lesson Course, Mirdad's yearlong exploration of Edgar Cayce's 24-step course in awakening Christ Consciousness. The class gathers the first Sunday of every month from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., in person and on Zoom, with recordings uploaded afterward. Tuition is $40 per class or $400 for the full year in advance.
On the first and third Wednesdays from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Mirdad leads Spiritual Healing, Counseling and Mentoring, a healing circle that blends counseling, group therapy and personal mentoring. Attendees bring questions and concerns to Mirdad, who responds with feedback, insights, suggestions or, at times, hands-on healing. Sessions cost $20 each, or $10 for Global Center Chaplains, and are recorded for later viewing.
The Essene Bible Celebration meets every Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room. Led by author and teacher Lianna Leigh, the class works its way through the Gospel of John, uncovering the mystical meanings of each chapter and exploring the practices and message of the Essenes, the spiritual tradition that prepared the way for Yeshua.
Workshops rotate through the calendar as well, often tied to visiting teachers. Recent examples include The Intuitive Heart Workshop with Lori Inman, sound baths with Phaedra, Evening with the Mother meditation and healing events with Cat Miller, and a yearly Daughters of Heaven Conference that brings together internationally known musicians and presenters for a two-day activation and celebration. The Global Center also serves as the home venue for the Sedona chapter of MUFON (the Mutual UFO Network), whose monthly meetings on Sunday afternoons draw audiences interested in high-strangeness topics, ancient aliens and related subjects.
The Monthly Intuitive Arts Fair
One Sunday a month, usually the third, the Global Center becomes Sedona's pop-up hub for psychics, mediums and energy workers. The Sedona Monthly Intuitive Arts Fair runs from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and brings together tarot readers, numerologists, palm readers, mediums, animal communicators, energy healers, past-life regression specialists and crystal readers. The Global Center's regular roster of intuitive practitioners includes Elizabeth Ammerman (Reiki), Sara Bachmeyer (Egyptian Numerology), Sheila Conneen (Angel Readings and Reiki), Luisa Alvarez (Crystal Reader), Paula Giancola (Intuitive Medium), Heather Green (Animal Communicator and Medical Intuitive), Jeanine Johnston (Shamanic Energy Healer), Christina McCarty (Fusion Massage Therapy), Michelle Phillips (Past Life Healer), Jeff Schlicht (Psychic Intuitive), Maria Tapia (Cranial Sacral), Rima Thundercloud (Palm Reader) and Lori Tierney (Psychic Intuitive and Angel Reader). Sessions are $30 for thirty minutes and can be booked in advance by calling the office. Crystal Bed sessions are also offered during the fair for those who want to combine a reading with chakra balancing.
History: From Unity of Sedona to the Global Center
The congregation traces its roots to about 1970, when Unity minister Rev. Dale Batesole drove up from Scottsdale to establish a Unity presence in Sedona. Services began in a real estate office and quickly moved to a building on Deer Trail Drive, which served as the church's home for the next forty years. Rev. Jack Hamilton and later his ex-wife Rev. Corrine Hamilton kept the work going through the 1970s and 1980s; Corrine's death from breast cancer led to a transitional period under Rev. Leslie Marquette. Rev. Max Lafser, a charismatic speaker, paid off the church mortgage in the mid-1990s before moving on, followed by co-ministers Revs. Mark and Helen Pope, and then Revs. Geoffrey and Anne Marie Davis, who launched the popular Course in Miracles class before being dismissed by the Board in a dispute over property.
The early 2000s brought a stretch of interim ministers and guest speakers. By 2009 the church had spent several years without a settled leader and was exhausted by internal conflict. Unity of Sedona's membership eventually voted by more than 90 percent to pursue a progressive direction, and in 2011 invited Michael Mirdad to serve as Spiritual Leader. The change was immediate: Sunday attendance climbed from about fifty to more than 250 within months, membership grew from 30 to 150, and the mailing list expanded from 100 to 2,000. Mirdad refurbished the sanctuary, opened a café patio, built a labyrinth, redesigned the bookstore, and graduated more than 100 Chaplains, the largest such class at any Unity church in the world at the time.
Around 2020, the congregation moved to the present building on Northview Road, and in the summer of 2022, after more than a decade under Mirdad's leadership, the center formally became an autonomous entity. It dropped the Unity of Sedona name and rebranded as The Global Center for Christ Consciousness, declaring that its work was no longer tied to any single denomination, school or thought system. The Global Center now operates as an independent New Thought and New Age ministry with a worldwide online congregation.
What to Expect as a First-Time Visitor
Most attendees dress comfortably and presentably, and casual clothes are perfectly fine. A special corner near the main entrance of the sanctuary is reserved for families with children, and participation is welcomed to the limit of each child's attention span. During the Announcement segment of the service, first-time visitors are asked to stand and are presented with a beaded bracelet blessed by the Chaplains and a prayer blessing. After the closing song and prayer, Chaplains are available for personal prayer or hands-on healing, and many guests linger on the patio, walk the labyrinth, or browse the bookstore before leaving.
The service runs about ninety minutes and is held at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays in the Sanctuary. Seating is open, and parking is free on site. The Global Center's livestream makes it possible to participate from anywhere in the world through YouTube or Facebook Live.
Membership, Sponsorship and the Global Reach
The Global Center now counts more than 200 Global Members, with about 100 attendees in the sanctuary each Sunday and more than 400 joining the livestream on YouTube or Facebook. Members receive regular updates and monthly messages from Mirdad, access to the Chaplain program, and a closer connection to the center's global ministry. Monthly Global Membership Information Meetings are held on the second Sunday of each month at 11:45 a.m. Arizona time, both in person and via Zoom.
The center is supported by donations through QGiv and PayPal, by sponsorships, and by rentals of the property for concerts, conferences, workshops, weddings and spiritual gatherings. The Global Center has hosted everything from Ananda Das bhakti concerts and Jaya Lakshmi performances to MUFON's Skyfire Summit, Easter Sunday services, and the annual Daughters of Heaven Conference. The grounds can seat up to roughly 250 guests in an intimate setting with comfortable seating, professional lighting and sound, and the option to livestream or record an event.
Mission and Beliefs
The Global Center's published mission statement reads: The Global Center for Christ Consciousness is a spiritual center for students and masters on the spiritual path. We are dedicated to Awakening the Inner Christ, and to creating a world of Love, Peace, Joy and Abundance. The center teaches that peace is the natural state of being for those who choose love as their identity, and that awakening the Inner Christ brings goodness into every area of life. It honors all religions, traditions and thought systems, and frames Christ Consciousness not as a sectarian belief but as a universal awakening available to anyone on a sincere spiritual path.
The Global Center for Christ Consciousness stands as both a local gathering place in West Sedona and a worldwide hub for those drawn to Mirdad's teaching.
