A Parish on the Broadneck Peninsula
St. Andrew by the Bay Parish serves the Broadneck Peninsula from its home at 701 College Parkway in Annapolis, Maryland. The parish's own mission statement describes who its members want to be: "Formed by God's Word, called to be disciples of Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, the parish community of St. Andrew by the Bay seeks to be a joyful sign of God's reign." Members celebrate and witness to God's presence through worship and prayer, learning and proclaiming the Gospel, service to God's people, and stewardship of the gifts God has entrusted to them.
The parish's motto is "Seek. Encounter. Find." Throughout the many ministries that gather on and around the campus - daily Mass, weekly day-long Eucharistic Adoration, faith formation for every age from preschool through adulthood, a popular weekly Bible study for women, multiple formation groups for men, a preschool that has become its own ministry, and a wide network of community services - that sequence shapes how the parish introduces people to Catholic life and how it deepens their formation.
Mass, Confession, and Eucharistic Adoration
Mass is offered every day of the week. On Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Mass is celebrated at 9:00 AM. Saturday's parish Mass is at 5:00 PM, with an additional 8:00 AM Mass on the first Saturday of each month. Sunday Masses are at 8:30 AM, 10:30 AM, and 5:30 PM.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available three days a week: Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, Fridays from 7:00 to 8:00 AM, and Saturdays from 8:30 to 10:00 AM.
Eucharistic Adoration is the third pillar of the parish's prayer life. On Wednesdays the Blessed Sacrament is exposed on the altar from 9:30 AM to 9:00 PM, giving parishioners a full day to step in for a few minutes or a few hours with the Lord. On the first Friday of every month, Adoration runs from 8:00 to 9:00 AM. The Adoration Ministry invites committed adorers, substitutes, and people willing to help educate others about the devotion.
Sunday Mass is also livestreamed on the parish's Facebook page, and recordings are made available on the parish YouTube channel.
Faith Formation for Children and Youth
Faith formation at St. Andrew by the Bay reaches from early childhood through high school. Children's Faith Formation welcomes children from age four through grade four. Sessions are held Sunday mornings from 9:35 to 10:20 AM, with children attending Mass either before or after their session; a homeschool track is also available. Fifth graders move into the Doves program, an experience-based formation on scheduled Saturdays and Sundays before the evening Mass.
First Reconciliation and First Communion are typically celebrated in second grade, after a child's second consecutive year of faith formation. Confirmation preparation begins in fourth grade for baptized children who have received First Reconciliation and Communion; older students who still need the sacrament are welcomed into the appropriate year of youth ministry.
Middle school and high school youth, grades six through twelve, are welcomed into Youth Ministry, coordinated by Casey Gargagliano. The program combines gender-based small groups, peer-led ministry, Guys Nights and Girls Nights, service experiences, social events, and an annual weekend retreat at Camp Wabanna that opens and closes the program year. The high school track emphasizes fellowship, leadership, and a summer of fun, service, and faith.
Walking with Purpose and Women's Formation
St. Andrew by the Bay hosts Walking with Purpose, a community of women gathering to study Scripture, deepen their relationship with Christ, and grow in love and support for one another. In-person studies meet Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11:15 AM in the Upper Hall, with limited childcare available for children ages one through five. The morning menu of studies includes Opening Your Heart, Fearless and Free (fall), Living in the Father's Love (spring), and Foundations of Faith: A Journey Through the Catechism of the Catholic Church from Ascension Press.
A virtual study of Discovering Our Dignity meets Thursday afternoons, with an in-person evening option offered Thursdays at 7:00 PM. Active-duty military and their spouses are eligible for free study guides. New participants may join at any point in the year.
Men's Ministry on Campus
The parish is home to a strong men's formation program. Council #11552 of the Knights of Columbus was established at St. Andrew by the Bay on April 20, 1995, and supports the parish and the wider community through charitable works and fellowship.
Several men's groups meet on a regular basis. "Cor," Latin for "heart," gathers twice a month on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM in the lower hall for Bible study, formative videos, discussion, and refreshments. "Fishers of Men" meets most Saturdays from 8:00 to 9:15 AM in the parish library for Bible and Catechism study, with a Zoom option for those who prefer it. "Beer & Barron" meets every other Thursday from 7:30 to 9:30 PM in private homes for fellowship and a discussion of a Word on Fire video; drinks are optional, and the conversation is the point.
Each Lent, the parish runs Exodus 90, a 90-day or shorter 50-day program of daily prayer, asceticism, and fraternity, designed to help men become "uncommonly free" by Easter.
Young Adults, Parents, and Ongoing Adult Study
Catholic young adults ages 18 to 35 gather as "Frassati" ministry on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM, with additional social and service events. The group takes its inspiration from Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, a young Italian layman whose witness continues to inspire Catholic young adults worldwide.
A Parent Ministry small group meets twice a month on Sunday mornings at 9:35 AM. Childcare for walking-age children is provided, and there is no required reading or preparation outside of meeting times; participants cite the bonds formed with other parents raising children in the faith as one of the program's most valued features.
For all adults, an ongoing Tuesday Bible class explores Faith, Science, and Reason through discussion, a Wednesday morning Scripture Sharing meets from 9:45 to 11:00 AM in the Sacristy, and a Zoom study of the Book of Hebrews is open on Thursdays at 7:00 PM. The parish also makes Formed, a Catholic streaming service, available free to parishioners.
The Preschool on Campus
The St. Andrew by the Bay Preschool is a ministry of the parish, founded and run as an extension of its Catholic mission. Sue Jeglinski directs the program. Curriculum follows the Archdiocese of Baltimore's Catholic standards, and Pre-K classes use the Maryland State Department of Education-approved "Little Treasures Pre-K Program" by Macmillan-McGraw-Hill.
Programs are offered for ages two through Pre-K 5, with class schedules running Monday through Friday, Monday-Wednesday-Friday, or Tuesday-Thursday depending on age. Morning classes run from 9:00 AM to about 11:25 or 11:30 AM; older classes run until 2:00 PM. Before Care, After Care, and a Lunch Bunch option are available. Tuition ranges from $240 a month for the Tuesday-and-Thursday 2's to $800 a month for Pre-K, with registration open to current students, siblings, alumni, parish members, and new applicants through a priority window each January.
Sacraments and Sacramental Preparation
The parish prepares Catholics of every age for the seven sacraments. Infant baptism is typically celebrated during weekend liturgies, with parents asked to attend a preparation session every other month. Older children and adults who have not been baptized enter the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA), the formal process for those seeking to become Catholic or to complete their initiation, directed by Jennifer Darville.
First Reconciliation and First Communion are celebrated in second grade after a year of formation. Confirmation is prepared for in fourth grade and beyond, with youth in middle and high school formation also eligible, under Coordinator of Sacramental Formation Nora Blasy.
Weddings are usually celebrated on Saturday afternoon, with start times between 1:00 and 2:30 PM, or on a Friday afternoon or evening. The parish fee is $1,000, paid in two installments; music and other arrangements are coordinated separately with the Director of Music. Marriage preparation is coordinated through the couple's home parish and an Archdiocesan-approved Pre-Cana program.
Funerals typically take place Mondays, Thursdays, or Fridays at 11:00 AM, with either a full Catholic Mass or a smaller prayer service among the options. The parish also offers pre-planning forms so that final wishes are on file in advance. Anointing of the Sick is available by appointment with the pastor, and the Bereavement Ministry assists families with funeral pre-planning, grief support groups, and pregnancy-loss resources.
Works of Mercy Across the Parish and the Region
Under the leadership of Deacon Bill Fleming, the Works of Mercy ministries are central to the parish's identity and reach far beyond the campus. The St. Vincent de Paul Society serves those in need on the Broadneck Peninsula, with confidential representatives at the Parish Center on Mondays and Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30 PM. My Brother's Pantry provides emergency food supplies and continuing monthly assistance. Chores & More is a network of volunteers serving shut-ins and the temporarily homebound with rides and short-term help.
Volunteers prepare and serve dinner at the Light House Shelter in Annapolis on the first Thursday of each month, and on the second Monday of each month they provide and serve lunch at My Sister's Place, a Catholic Charities women's day shelter in Baltimore. Each year the Winter Relief Program partners with the Arundel House of Hope to host up to 35 men overnight during the last week of December through New Year's, with well over 200 volunteer slots for parishioners. The Homeless Ministry in Baltimore collects toiletries, clothing, blankets, and other supplies for distribution to those living on the streets.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry knits and crochets comfort shawls for the bereaved and ill. The Intercessory Prayer Group prays at home for parish intentions and individual members. Respect Life supports women in crisis pregnancies through the Gabriel Project, assists Mary's Center and Birthright, and organizes bus service for the annual March for Life. The Sister Parish Committee maintains a long-running relationship with San Francisco de Asis in El Salvador. Trees of Compassion, an Advent giving program, supplies gifts and donations to local shelters, Anne Arundel Habitat for Humanity, and the sister parishes.
The Prison Ministry assists the chaplain at the Jennifer Road Detention Center with Bible study and GED preparation, and the parish contributes Christmas cards each year for the detention center's inmates. The St. Michael Ministry prepares blessing bags for first responders, healthcare workers, and others in need.
The Sacred Space Project
In the summer of 2026, the parish will begin a major renovation of its worship space. The Sacred Space Project uses dignified and durable materials to create a harmonious and welcoming sanctuary, building on the foundations laid by the parish's founding generation. Plans, a project overview, and artist renderings are available for review, with pledges and donations being accepted to support the work.
Becoming Catholic, Joining the Parish, and Hallow
The parish welcomes anyone curious about the Catholic faith through its OCIA process, which meets adults and older children wherever they are on their journey. Parishioners can register the family as members of St. Andrew by the Bay at any time. The parish has also partnered with Hallow, the Catholic prayer app, offering all parishioners six months of the subscription free when they join through the parish's page.
Leadership and Stewardship
Rev. Tyler George Kline serves as Pastor of St. Andrew by the Bay. He is assisted by three deacons - Bill Fleming, who also directs Works of Mercy; Tim Cox; and David Tengwall - and by Seminarian John Anderson. Chanda Manturuk serves as Assistant to the Pastor. Sue Jeglinski directs the preschool; Jennifer Darville directs Evangelization and Formation; Dan Sitomer directs music; Casey Gargagliano coordinates Youth Evangelization and Formation; and Nora Blasy coordinates Sacramental Formation. A Finance Council, chaired by Richard DeStwolinski, advises the pastor on financial matters, and a Pastoral Council, chaired by Scott Carson, supports the parish's pastoral planning.
The parish is part of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Volunteers who work with children and youth complete the VIRTUS safe-environment program, and the parish takes part in the Archdiocese's accountability and child protection programs, including the third-party EthicsPoint reporting hotline.
