Three Sunday Mornings on Dubuque Road

Snohomish Community Church gathers on Dubuque Road, just south of the historic town of Snohomish in Washington's Snohomish County. Three identical worship services run each Sunday at 8:15am, 9:45am, and 11:15am, giving early risers, midmorning families, and late-Sunday attenders the same hour of singing and teaching. The building is laid out so that during every service, childcare and preschool meet just outside the Worship Center in the main building, elementary children move to the Student Center in the south building, middle school students gather at 9:45am, and high school students meet at 11:15am in the Student Center. The church's motto - We Exist to Make Disciples - frames everything from those Sunday services to the multi-year study tracks offered through its own in-house school.

Founded in 1993 to Multiply Disciples

Snohomish Community Church was founded in 1993 with a desire to be a multiplying church that reaches Snohomish County and beyond. More than three decades later, the church organizes its life around a four-part disciple-making strategy drawn from Matthew 28 and Mark 1: a disciple of Jesus Knows Him in a personal relationship, Follows Him as Lord, Grows to become like Him, and Goes to serve His mission. That same progression shapes the entire discipleship pathway, from a child's first Sunday in Kids Gospel Groups through adult electives on doctrine, marriage, and biblical counseling.

The teaching team is led by Fred Williams, who serves as Lead Pastor, with Tim Walton as Pastor Emeritus. The pastoral team also includes Bryan Bouma (Administrative Pastor), John Doty (Family and Life Group Pastor), Christian Dibert (High School Ministries Pastor), Gordon Everett (Missions and Outreach Pastor), Sean Harrelson (Men's Ministry and Leadership Development Pastor), Rick Jones (Senior Adults Pastor), Jim Low (Care and Counseling Pastor), Luke Miller (Worship Pastor), David McLain (Kids Pastor), Noah Anderson (Resident Pastor for Middle School Ministries), and Alex Loeber (Resident Pastor for Young Adult Ministries). Eleven men - Bruce Bailey, Jeff Cruzan, Gordon Everett, Rustin Haft, Sean Harrelson, Rick Jones, Jim Kellett, David Larson, Keith Loeber, Glen Ness, and Mick Stave - serve as elders alongside Pastor Williams.

The Sunday Rhythm

Worship is led by a contemporary team anchored by Worship Pastor Luke Miller, and every service is livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person. The music is contemporary; sermons are expository and rooted in Scripture; a weekly Connection Card lets newcomers leave contact information for follow-up. Those who want to talk further are invited to a quarterly Pastor's Dessert, an informal gathering where newer attenders meet the pastors and tour the facilities.

SDI: The Snohomish Discipleship Institute

One of the most distinctive things about SCC is the Snohomish Discipleship Institute, known simply as SDI. SDI is the church's in-house school for deepening disciples and developing leaders, with courses organized into three tracks: Bible and Theology, Growth and Life, and Ministry and Leadership. Recent offerings have included Bible Study Methods 1 (an introduction to hermeneutics using Grasping God's Word by Duvall and Hays), The Doctrine of the Holy Spirit, Doctrines of Grace (a study of the TULIP framework), Transformed Living for Women 2 (on sanctification, forgiveness, communication, and contentment), and Biblical Counseling 1: Fundamentals (on the sufficiency of Scripture for the problems of daily life). Classes typically meet one evening a week for six to nine sessions at the church's Family Center.

For men and women preparing for ministry leadership, SDI also runs a Leaders in Training (LIT) track with core courses in Bible Study Methods 1 and 2, Core Christian Doctrine 1 and 2, The Bible's Grand Story, Doctrines of Grace, Spiritual Disciplines, Evangelism 101, Christian Leadership, and Basics of Biblical Counseling. Those who finish the program receive an SDI Certificate in Ministry Leadership. The institute is anchored in 2 Peter 3:18: "But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity."

Partners 1-on-1: Discipleship at the Table

Alongside SDI's classroom model, SCC invests heavily in one-on-one discipleship through its Partners 1-on-1 program. Each participant meets weekly with a mature Christian of the same gender, working through a ten-chapter Partners Workbook that covers ten biblical themes essential to the Christian life. The model is patterned on the way Jesus personally invested in His disciples and the way Paul mentored Timothy, Titus, and Silas, with 2 Timothy 2:2 as the key verse: "And the things you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." Graduates are expected to lead someone else through the workbook in turn, building a multiplying pipeline of disciple-makers.

Life Groups Across the County

Life Groups are SCC's small-group engine. Each week, groups of eight or more adults meet in homes and other locations around the area to study the same passages being preached on Sunday, pray for one another, and walk through life's challenges together. The church provides a Participant Guide and a Leader Guide for the groups, and groups are divided by geography so no one has to drive across the county to attend. Newcomers who want deeper connection after their first Sunday are pointed toward Life Groups as the recommended next step. The ministry is led by Keith Loeber (Connection and Life Groups Director) and Mitzi Felts (Life Groups and First Impressions Coordinator).

Growing Up at SCC

Children from preschool through fifth grade have a full program through the Kids ministry. Kids Gospel Groups gather on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:00pm during the school year, taking a deeper dive into a different biblical truth each week with games, prayer, and study. There is also an online family Bible study families can use at home alongside the Sunday curriculum, and a monthly Kids Newsletter for ongoing updates. The team is led by Kids Pastor David McLain, Preschool Coordinator Tracy Eckert, Elementary Coordinator Emily Waters, and Nursery Coordinator Kendra Shears.

Middle School Ministry (grades 6-8) meets Sundays at 9:45am in the Student Center for worship, fellowship, and teaching, with grade-level Life Groups on Wednesday evenings during the school year. Resident Pastor Noah Anderson oversees the program.

High School Ministry (grades 9-12) meets at 11:15am on Sundays in the Student Center, with Wednesday night Life Groups running from September through May. Each small group is divided by grade and gender and led by three to four adult leaders. Pastor Christian Dibert oversees high school ministry, with a recommended family-discipleship reading list and a regular Parent-Student Night to keep parents and students on the same page about the year ahead.

Young Adults (ages 18-29) meet on Tuesday nights from 7:00pm to 8:30pm for worship, teaching, group discussion, and desserts. Resident Pastor Alex Loeber leads the ministry, which is currently working through a study in the Gospel of Luke.

Men, Women, and Senior Adults

Men's Ministry centers on Outposts - small groups of men who meet regularly for study and prayer - and on Partners 1-on-1. Sean Harrelson serves as Men's Ministry and Leadership Development Pastor, with Tracy Hartley serving on staff in support.

Women's Ministry offers a wider set of touchpoints. SnoCo Moms, a twice-monthly gathering for mothers of children ages 0 through Kindergarten, meets on the second and fourth Tuesday mornings from September through May at 9:30am, with childcare, breakfast, and coffee provided. Women's Bible Studies run through the program year, with an annual focus on the worthiness of God and a study on attributes like steadfast love, mercy, justice, wisdom, and sovereignty. Other women's touchpoints include an annual Women's Breakfast, Ladies' Nights Out, retreats, and groups such as Cancer Care (meals and prayer for women facing cancer), Loving Threads (a craft-and-care ministry that creates items for the church body and community), Meals Ministry (delivering meals during life transitions), READ (a book discussion circle), and Ruth's Daughters (a widow's ministry). Misty Larson serves as Women's Director, with Jane Etter supporting women's assimilation and hospitality.

Senior adults are championed by Senior Adults Pastor Rick Jones. Weekly Bible teaching is offered through the Roadside Diner study, which meets most Mondays during the school year - the first, third, fourth, and fifth Mondays at 10:30am in the Student Center - with careful Bible exposition, practical application, and printed take-home notes. Once a month, on the second Monday, the group gathers for a fellowship lunch from 12:00pm to 2:00pm in the Worship Center. Grandparents are invited into the GAP group, meeting on the first Sunday of each month from October through June at 11:15am in the Family Center (Room 8) for a devotion and prayer for grandchildren. Senior CARE Connection provides practical support - meals, calls, cards, visits, and prayer - during illness, loss, or other transitions.

Marriage and Pre-Marriage

Marriage ministry, led by Jeff and Jennifer Cruzan, offers enrichment events throughout the year for married couples and premarital counseling for the engaged. The premarital track walks couples through a curriculum covering becoming one flesh, the importance of the marriage covenant, and God's design for marriage roles.

Missions: Locally and Around the World

Missions at SCC is built around the Great Commission. Long-term missionaries associated with the church include the Beach, Erickson, Goge, Fernandez, Lyons (Greg and Luann, and Luke and Kelly), Millard, Miller, Raney, Walker, and Welge families, serving with organizations such as Pioneer Bible Translators, Ethnos 360, Fellowship International Mission, Pacific Mission Aviation, Serving in Mission, Samaritan's Purse, Training Leaders International, World Concern, and World Link Ministries. Local agencies SCC partners with include Adventure Soccer, Cascade Women's Health, Everett Gospel Mission, Global Eyeglass Ministry, Global Surge, Prisoners for Christ, Resourcing Christian Education, and the Snohomish Community Food Bank.

A multi-year partnership launched in January 2025 with Pioneer Bible Translators, World Concern, and Alderwood Community Church is bringing Bible translation, audio Scriptures, the Jesus Film, and Christ-centered community development to an East African people group of about 150,000 without a complete Bible in their own language. Short-term trip opportunities have included a family mission trip to Ensenada, Mexico in partnership with YUGO Ministries, a high school mission trip to Ensenada with house-build projects, and an evangelistic eyeglass clinic trip to the Philippines with Global Surge. Gordon Everett serves as Missions and Outreach Pastor.

Biblical Counseling and Healing Hearts

SCC's Biblical Counseling ministry offers free, Scripture-based counsel to adults (18 and older) who are members or regular attenders, addressing relationship conflicts, marriage problems, parenting, addictions, sexuality, anger, anxiety, depression, grief, abuse, burdens from the past, finances, and more. The approach rests on the conviction that Scripture is sufficient for the problems we face, that the Creator knows His creatures best, and that God's Word is endlessly practical for daily living. Care and Counseling Pastor Jim Low oversees the work, with Wendy Wood serving as Women's Counselor. Materials assigned for reading typically run no more than $25.

Healing Hearts, a Gospel-centered, grace-driven ministry to those wounded by sin, includes a ten-week study called Binding Up the Brokenhearted for women who suffer the aftereffects of abortion. The study is led by counselor Susan Santie.

What SCC Believes

The church's beliefs are organized around five Core Commitments - Truth, Worship, Community, Growth, and Witness - and a four-part strategy of Know, Follow, Grow, Go. Doctrinally, SCC teaches that the Bible, with its Old and New Testaments, is God-breathed, inerrant, without contradiction, and the foundation for all belief and practice; that God is one, infinite, eternal, self-existent, and holy, and is triune - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - co-eternal in nature, co-equal in power and glory; that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, born of a virgin, who died as a substitutionary sacrifice for sin and rose bodily from the grave, ascended into heaven, and now sits exalted at God's right hand; that the Holy Spirit regenerates, indwells, seals, fills, and intercedes for believers and sovereignly distributes gifts for the edification of the church; and that humanity is created in God's image, fallen through Adam, and in need of grace. Salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone, producing repentance and transformation; the church is the spiritual body of Christ, expressed locally in self-governing congregations led by pastor-elders and marked by the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper; and eternity involves the personal return of Christ, final judgment, the thousand-year reign of Christ, and the creation of new heavens and new earth.
