A Place on Taylor Mill Road
The Taylor Mill Seventh-Day Adventist Church sits at 5235 Taylor Mill Road in the city of Taylor Mill, Kentucky, a small city inside the Cincinnati metro area in Kenton County. The congregation keeps the Adventist tradition of gathering on the seventh day, with Sabbath School and worship on Saturday morning and a long table of shared food in the afternoon. The church's motto is "Living God's Love, Sharing God's Word." Pastor Jared Briggman leads the church, and the building also houses Taylor Mill Christian Academy, the congregation's day school.
The church operates within the wider Adventist family through the Kentucky-Tennessee Conference and the North American Division. Its online presence is provided by the North American Division through Adventist Connect, and giving flows through the Adventist Giving online platform.
Sabbath Mornings in Taylor Mill
Two regular meetings shape the week. Sabbath School begins at 10:00 a.m., with classes for every age from the children's divisions through adult classes. The Worship Service begins at 11:05 a.m., running through the noon hour. Together the two make up a Saturday morning that stretches roughly from ten to twelve-thirty. Visitors are welcome at either gathering.
Children and youth have their own Adventist programs alongside the adult Sabbath School. Adventurers is the church's club for younger children, and Pathfinders serves older youth with an emphasis on outdoor skills, service, and spiritual growth. Vacation Bible School and other seasonal children's events round out the year.
Saturdays Around the Table
Potluck and fellowship are built into the weekly rhythm. A Fellowship Meal follows the worship service most Saturdays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the church's fellowship room. Members and guests bring a dish to share, and visitors are welcome at the table. Once a month, the regular potluck is replaced by a larger Church-Wide Potluck, often tied to a Communion service or another special Sabbath.
The work of preparing and cleaning up after these meals is part of the church's broader volunteer rotation. Members sign up through the Church Member Volunteer Survey for roles that include potluck setup and cleanup, meal preparation for those who are homebound, and staffing the hospitality table during fellowship times.
Communion Mornings and Friday Vespers
Communion is observed quarterly at the church. Each service runs from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with the bread and cup shared after the sermon. Members help with the communion service itself - preparing the elements, serving, and cleaning up - as one of the regular volunteer roles on the survey form.
On occasional Friday evenings, the congregation gathers at the pastor's home for Cinnamon Roll Vespers. The evening combines music, a short devotional, and warm cinnamon rolls, an informal way to ease into the Sabbath. The gatherings are scheduled in the evening, generally running 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Members and friends RSVP through the church's Cinnamon Roll Fellowship form.
Church in the Park
Once or twice a year, the church trades the sanctuary walls for open sky. Church in the Park is held at the Bison Pavilion in Big Bone Lick State Park, 3380 Beaver Road in Union, Kentucky. The day runs from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and includes the full Sabbath program: Sabbath School, worship, communion when scheduled, and a fellowship meal, all under the pavilion roof. It is one of the most anticipated gatherings on the church calendar and a chance for members and friends to spend a fall Sabbath outdoors together.
Board Meetings and Church Governance
Church board meetings are held on the second Monday of each month from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The board handles the business of the congregation: finances, facilities, ministry planning, and the nomination of officers. Members are elected to roles such as elder, deacon, deaconess, clerk, treasurer, department leader, and church board member, with nominations made through a nominating committee that draws on the volunteer survey responses.
A School Next Door
Sharing the Taylor Mill Road campus is Taylor Mill Christian Academy, an Adventist day school. The academy is its own organization with its own enrollment and staff, but the relationship between church and school is close. Many academy families attend the Sabbath services, and the school uses the church's facilities for programs and events. Adventist education has long been a part of the church's outreach, and the academy extends that mission to the wider Taylor Mill community.
Ministry Roles and Volunteer Teams
The church runs on the work of its members. A Church Member Volunteer Survey, posted through the church, lists the departments and roles that need filling each year. They fall into eight broad areas:
- Worship and platform: prayer leaders, Scripture readers, song leaders, special music, children's story, communion helpers, ushers, and greeters for the worship service and Sabbath School.
- Teaching and discipleship: Sabbath School teachers for adults, children, and youth, small group leaders, Bible study leaders, prayer and intercession team, and new-member mentors.
- Member care: visitation, meal preparation and delivery for those who are ill or homebound, phone calls and encouragement, and the hospitality table and welcome center.
- Children and youth: Adventurers staff, Pathfinders staff, youth activity leaders, VBS volunteers, and behind-the-scenes support for snacks, setup, and supplies.
- Outreach and community: community service projects, health ministry events, literature distribution, evangelism setup and follow-up, and partnerships with other local organizations.
- Communications and technology: sound board, livestream and camera crew, bulletin design, photography and video, and email and social media work.
- Operations and practical help: greeter, potluck setup and cleanup, maintenance and repairs, usher, facility setup and tear-down, safety and security, and grounds care including lawn and snow.
- Administration and support: scheduling volunteers, clerk and records support, treasury and counting team, event planning, committee support and minutes, and supplies inventory.
The survey also asks members about spiritual gifts they believe they have: teaching, leadership, administration, hospitality, encouragement, mercy, evangelism, faith, prayer, helps, and music. Members can indicate openness to being considered for elected or appointed roles such as elder, deacon, deaconess, clerk, treasurer, department leader, church board member, or nominating committee member.
Streaming, Bulletins, and Giving
Visitors who cannot make the drive to Taylor Mill can follow along online. The church livestreams services on its YouTube channel, and a digital bulletin is posted on Faithlife at faithlife.com/taylormillsda/bulletins. Communications for the church are handled by Michelle Ball, who oversees the bulletin, social media, and general outreach.
Giving is processed through Adventist Giving, the denomination's online platform. Members and friends can direct contributions to the church's local fund or to the wider Adventist mission through the same portal.
