Randolph Memorial Baptist Church sits along South Amherst Highway (US-29 Business North) in Madison Heights, Virginia, roughly four miles northeast of downtown Lynchburg. The congregation describes itself as a community of believers actively pursuing growth in Christ likeness, increasing in their capacity to live and tell the Good News of Jesus and to demonstrate it through acts of service in Amherst County.
Sunday Mornings on South Amherst Highway
Sunday School classes gather at 10:00 AM, and worship in the sanctuary follows at 11:00 AM. The Sunday school program is divided by age and interest. Children from preschool through fifth grade meet in the Children's Department, while students in grades six through twelve gather in the Youth Department. Adults can choose from Bessie Snead's women's class, the Sel Moseley men's class, the Believers' Fellowship class, or the general Adult's class.
Worship and Music
Worship at RMBC centers on congregational singing, led by Music Minister Susie Poindexter, who has planned and led worship through music for over forty years and holds a B.S. in Music Education from Radford University. Pastor Dr. Derik Hamby, who joined the staff in August 2007, preaches from the pulpit. He earned degrees from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis and the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond and came to Madison Heights from Kentucky with his wife Katie and their children Rachel and Will.
Deacon-Led Care Teams
Rather than organizing ministries by topic, RMBC carries much of its care work through deacon-led ministry teams. The Hospital Ministry Team visits members and regular attendees who are hospitalized, offering encouragement and prayer. The Bereavement Team ministers to families during the loss of a loved one, providing paper goods, contact, and prayers. The Homebound Team stays in touch with members unable to attend services and keeps the pastor informed of their needs. The Outreach Team welcomes newcomers to the community and the church, while the Kingdom Impact Team reaches beyond the church's walls with concrete acts of service in the surrounding county.
Online Worship and Giving
For those unable to attend in person, the Sunday service is shared weekly on the church's YouTube channel, RandolphMemorialBaptist. Giving can take several forms. An offering is collected during the Sunday worship service when the basket is passed. Donations can be made online through the church's secure giving page, texted by sending RMBC2000 to 73256, or arranged through a member's bank by adding Randolph Memorial Baptist Church as a payee for a mailed monthly check.
A Cooperative Baptist Identity
RMBC is affiliated with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the Baptist Association of Virginia, and the Lynchburg Baptist Association. The church office is open Monday through Thursday from 9 AM to 3 PM, and visitors are invited to drop in for Sunday School at 10 AM or worship at 11 AM.
