Set along Radford Church Road in Moneta, Virginia, Radford Baptist Church carries the simple tagline Home of the Redeemed and calls itself a Christ-centered body dedicated to discipleship and sharing the gospel with its community. The church gathers each Sunday morning for a blended worship service that mixes contemporary Christian songs with classic hymns, and its grounds host a steady calendar of activities for every age group, from nursery care to senior fellowships.
What to Expect on Sunday Morning
Worship begins at 10:00 AM in the sanctuary. Greeters welcome visitors at the door and direct them to a welcome desk, where first-time guests can ask questions and pick up a worship guide with announcements and connection opportunities. The service moves through singing, prayer, and preaching from God's Word, and visitors are invited to wear whatever makes them comfortable. Bibles are tucked into the back of each pew, and Scripture passages are often projected on the screens, so no one needs to bring anything they do not have on hand.
During the service, children can either remain with their families or head to KidZone in the back. The nursery serves children from birth through Pre-K, while Children's Church is offered for K through 5th grade. The dress code is casual; shorts and t-shirts fit right in alongside suits and ties.
Wednesday Nights for Every Age
Midweek life at Radford centers on a 6:30 PM gathering with programming for the whole family. Adults stay in the sanctuary for an in-depth Bible study that walks through Scripture and works through discussion and life application. Children in K5 through 5th grade gather for Kingdom Kids Club, a boys and girls ministry built around Scripture memorization, energetic games, and caring Christian mentors. Students in 6th through 12th grade join Encounter, a youth group that blends contemporary worship, deeper study of God's Word, and small group accountability. The midweek schedule is one of the church's main entry points for new families looking to get connected.
RBC KidZone and Kingdom Kids
The children's ministry at Radford is built around the idea that kids should grow up knowing they are loved by God and encouraged to develop a personal relationship with Him. Sunday morning nursery workers spend time playing, teaching, and caring for little ones, weaving in age-appropriate Bible stories and songs. Children's Church for K through 5th grade layers in games, hands-on object lessons, crafts, snacks, and a Scripture-based lesson.
Beyond Sunday mornings, the children's calendar is packed with events designed to bring families together. The Fall Festival, Awana Grand Prix, lake days, dance camp, Christmas and Easter programs, family campouts, and movie nights fill out the year, giving kids many chances to connect with one another and with the church body.
Encounter Youth and the One Heart Dance Team
The youth ministry, called Encounter, gathers middle and high school students on Wednesday nights throughout the school year. Leaders are intentional about encouraging students, asking hard questions, and pressing into Scripture together. Outside of midweek, Encounter teens pile into activities like the Amazing Race, the Valley Student Conference, snow tubing, mission trips, theme park days, community outreach events, lake days, game nights, and pool parties.
Out of Encounter grows the One Heart Dance Team, a ministry for middle and high school girls who learn dances choreographed by senior team members and present them during church services, the Christmas program, and other special events. Each dancer is paired with a younger "sister" to invest in and encourage across the season. The team also runs an annual Dance Camp open to girls ages 5 through 12, blending dance instruction, games, crafts, and Bible lessons.
Adults: Ladies, Bikers, and Bible Reading
The adult ministry at Radford is designed to meet people in every season of life. The Ladies Ministry gathers women of all ages for Bible studies, retreats, and girls' nights out, creating a place of encouragement and refreshment. Resurrection Riders at SML is a chapter of motorcycle riders, both men and women, who share a passion for bikes and for Jesus Christ; riders and non-riders are both welcome.
Men at Radford can join a Tuesday night Bible reading on Zoom from 7:00 to 7:45 PM, designed to encourage men to dig into God's Word and think about what it means to be a man of God. Wednesday night adult Bible study in the sanctuary complements the Tuesday men's group and offers a second touchpoint during the week.
Music Ministry
The music ministry blends contemporary Christian worship and classic hymns, leading the congregation in heartfelt praise. The Praise Team features piano, keyboard, drums, electric and acoustic guitars, bass, and occasionally violin, while the Worship Choir fills the room with enthusiastic voices. Behind the scenes, the Audio Visual Team (open to those 16 and older) runs slides and sound each Sunday to help create a worshipful atmosphere.
Missions at Home and Around the World
Radford takes seriously the Great Commission of Matthew 28 to make disciples of all nations. An annual Missions Conference brings missionaries to the church for personal time, presentations, and prayer, while children have their own engaging track designed just for them. The church supports both short-term and long-term mission trips at local, national, and international levels.
Locally, the church partners with the Agape Center, which meets the physical and spiritual needs of the Smith Mountain Lake community and surrounding areas. Radford participates in Angel Tree, Thanksgiving baskets, and Agape Open each year. The Resurrection Riders and the Radford Redeemed team up with the Roanoke Rescue Mission to lead an evening service every other month, bringing music, testimonies, a brief message, and prayer to residents. Internationally, the church has relationships with missionaries serving through the International Mission Board and the North American Mission Board, both affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, and has sent teams to Belize to lead Armor of God camps in elementary schools.
What Radford Believes
Radford Baptist Church subscribes to the 2000 Southern Baptist Convention Faith and Message. The church teaches that the entire Bible is the inspired, trustworthy Word of God; that one true God exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; that humanity was created in God's image, fell into sin, and cannot restore itself; and that salvation comes through faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ alone.
The church practices two ordinances - believer's baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper - and affirms that the church is an autonomous local body of baptized believers under the lordship of Christ. The church also teaches the eternal security of believers, the priesthood of all believers, the importance of Christian education, generous and cheerful stewardship, religious liberty, the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death, and marriage as the lifelong union of one man and one woman.
Leadership
Senior Pastor Karl Hofheinz grew up in the Roanoke area, accepted Christ at six years old, studied Biology and Bible at Cedarville University, and earned a Master's in Ministry from Appalachian Bible College. He and his wife Sandy were married in 1994 and have four children. The Hofheinz family came to Radford in 2011. Pastor Karl's ministry goal is to inspire, mobilize, and lead the Radford body to know, love, serve, and share Jesus Christ in the local community and in the nations.
The elder team includes Kent Daniel, a former Marine and current Risk Management Coordinator for the church, and Mike Henderson, a fire alarm inspector who grew up in Roanoke, came to Christ at age five, and now serves alongside his wife Laurie. Together with the deacons, the elders shepherd the congregation in keeping with the church's conviction that scriptural officers are pastors and deacons.
Becoming a Member and Other Practical Details
Those interested in joining Radford attend a newcomer presentation, read through a membership packet, meet with an elder for a getting-to-know-you time, and are then presented to the body for a public welcome. The church grounds are available for weddings and funerals by arrangement through the office. Office hours run Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM and Friday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

The church also keeps a calendar, a newsletter, and a sermon archive on its site, and a Facebook page for ongoing updates and community life.
