Prince of Peace Lutheran Church is a Lutheran congregation in SeaTac, Washington, recently celebrating 70 years of ministry on 8th Avenue South. Long-time families and newer arrivals worship side by side in a tradition-shaped Sunday liturgy, while a busy weeknight and weekend calendar reaches children, youth, and adults across the Highline area. The congregation frames its work in plain terms: "inspired by God's great commission, will be a neighbor among all neighbors."
"Guided by the teachings of Christ, our mission is to foster a diverse and inclusive community where all individuals, regardless of background, are warmly welcomed and empowered on their spiritual journey," the church's own materials continue. Visitors are invited simply to "come: worship, grow your faith, and feel God's love." A short banner running across the front of the materials distills the mood into three lines: "Find purpose. Embrace community. Experience God's Love."
Traditional Sunday Worship at 10:00 a.m.
The Sunday gathering is the heart of life at Prince of Peace. Traditional Worship is held every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. and is described on the church's materials as "a timeless service rooted in Lutheran tradition, featuring liturgy, hymns, and an inspired message from God's word." The order of service follows the historic Lutheran pattern, with each week's bulletin published online so worshipers can prepare at home.
Each service is livestreamed on the church's Facebook page and YouTube channel, and recordings remain in an online video archive that stretches back through the year. The video list includes every Sunday and the special midweek services of Lent, so anyone who has to be away can keep up with the readings, hymns, and message.
A Contemporary Service Returns to the Chapel
Beginning in late September, the church holds a second Sunday gathering at 8:30 a.m. in the chapel area of the sanctuary. The Contemporary worship is set apart as "musically dynamic" and "deeply spiritual," with a shorter format for those who appreciate a more modern sound. It is in-person only, and it complements the longer traditional 10:00 a.m. service rather than replacing it.
Adult Education Before Worship
Each Sunday at 9:00 a.m., a Bible study fills the Fellowship Hall. The hour is built around scripture, open questions, and reflection on what being a Christian means in today's world. The slot fits naturally between an early breakfast and the 10:00 a.m. service, so adults can build a Sunday rhythm that includes prayer, study, and corporate worship.
Fabulous Fridays: When School Is In, the Church Stays Open
Prince of Peace turns Fridays into something more than a school-night chore. Fabulous Fridays meet every Friday the Highline School District is in session, opening the building to children in kindergarten through twelfth grade. The evening mixes crafts, sports, games, sewing, cooking, learning, and faith formation. Healthy snacks and a free dinner are part of every Friday, removing one more barrier for busy families. The program closes its school-year run in mid-June and resumes with the new school year in the fall.
Middle and High School Youth Nights
Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. belong to grades 7 through 12. Youth Night is described as "a fun night of peer relationships and faith formation for middle and high school youth," with snacks and drinks included. Beyond the weekly gathering, the church points to longer-term plans under the name Dream Center, with leadership working to expand youth gathering places and to design programs around the specific needs of the surrounding community.
Vacation Bible School in Summer
In summer, Vacation Bible School becomes the touchstone for younger children. The 2026 VBS ran June 22 through June 26, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., built around the theme "Ocean Deep: Diving into God's Love." The program is described as "a summer program for children to stay connected to God and each other during their break from school," and registration fills the church's busiest hours with singing, games, and Bible storytelling.
Bible Study on Tuesday Mornings and Saturday Mornings
Adults who want to keep digging into scripture during the week have several options. A Zoom Bible Study meets every Tuesday at 8:30 a.m., combining scripture, meaningful discussion, and prayer over a video link (the church office provides the link on request). On the first Saturday of each month at 9:30 a.m., the Women's Bible Study gathers in person, offering what the church calls a time for "personal and spiritual growth."
WELCA and the Quilting Queen Bees
WELCA, the women's organization of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, maintains an active chapter at Prince of Peace, and the Quilting Queen Bees turn fabric into gifts that, in the church's words, "warm both hearts and the lives of God's children." Quilting bees are open to anyone willing to join in and help send love to a hurting world, and the resulting quilts travel well beyond the congregation.
Community Dinner on the First Tuesday
The first Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. is reserved for a community dinner, prepared by a dedicated team and described by the church as "a one of a kind gourmet dinner." The meal is open to the wider community, not just church members, and is one of the easiest ways for newcomers to meet people at Prince of Peace. Tables fill up fast.
Gospel in Song on the Last Saturday
On the last Saturday of each month, the Fellowship Hall fills for Gospel in Song, an open-mic gospel music night with a potluck snack bar. The format is simple: come, bring a fun snack to share, and listen (or sing) as the group takes turns. The series pauses in November and December and resumes in late January, with the occasional date shift around holidays.
Parish Nurses and Partners in Worship
Prince of Peace counts parish nurses among its roster of caring ministries; they offer monthly blood pressure checks and prayers of healing. A separate Partners in Worship group coordinates the lay work of Sunday services, with sign-ups for ushers, greeters, acolytes, and communion assistants. Members can also serve on the Church Council, the body that handles "the business of the church" and forms a key part of adult ministry at Prince of Peace.
A Platinum Jubilee: 70 Years on 8th Avenue South
Highlights from the church's Platinum Jubilee 70th Anniversary Sunday are still featured in the church's communications. Located at 19030 8th Avenue South in SeaTac, the congregation has put its draft constitution in front of members for review, evidence of a community still actively shaping its next chapter. The Banner newsletter is shared online each month, and a weekly bulletin is posted so anyone can follow along with the appointed scriptures and hymns.
Giving, Online and Off
One-time and recurring gifts can be set up online through Pushpay, with the option to direct support to a particular ministry. The church also accepts mail-in offerings at 19030 8th Avenue South, SeaTac, WA 98148. For more involved gifts, the Giving page walks through donor-advised funds, appreciated securities, qualified charitable distributions from IRAs for those 70 and a half and older, life insurance policies naming the church as beneficiary, and bequests through a will, in percentage, contingent, specific, or residual forms.
Office Hours and Welcome
The church office is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. "All are welcome to join and worship," the materials conclude, under the simple heading "Come as you are."
