Poplar Springs Baptist Church occupies a stretch of Hiram Douglasville Highway just minutes from the heart of Hiram, Georgia. Senior Pastor Wayne Meadows leads the congregation with the stated goal of "making much of God by making disciples of Jesus Christ." Two Sunday morning worship gatherings, a robust children's program, midweek Bible teaching at every stage of life, and a global missions vision shape the days of this Paulding County congregation.
Two Sunday Mornings, One Mission
Worship gatherings are held at 8:30 AM and 10:45 AM every Sunday at 2056 Hiram Douglasville Highway. Each service runs about 75 minutes and is built around worship through music, prayer, and the teaching of Scripture through expositional preaching. Adults, students, and children in first grade and older gather in the sanctuary for the full service; children from birth through kindergarten are cared for in PSBC Kids.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive early enough to park and grab a cup of coffee before the service begins. Dress ranges widely: suits, dresses, khakis, collared shirts, jeans, and t-shirts are all common. A first-time guest card is offered as a welcome gift, and the congregation makes a point not to single out newcomers during the gathering. Once a quarter, PSBC also hosts a two-part class called Starting Point that walks newcomers through the mission, ministries, and membership of the church.
A Modern-Traditional Sound in Song
The music ministry at PSBC aims for what the church calls a "modern-traditional" approach, drawing from both the past and the present to offer a sound that connects across generations. Each Sunday gathering includes familiar hymns, contemporary songs, and choir or special music that is theologically sound, God-centered, and gospel-focused.
Opportunities to participate stretch across the week. The Adult Choir rehearses on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM in the Choir Room. Kids Praise meets on Wednesdays at 6:25 PM in the Choir Room. The Praise Team, made up of lead vocalists and an instrumentalist/band, rehearses each Sunday at 7:40 AM in the Sanctuary. A Student Choir meets at planned times throughout the year, and a Tech Team of volunteers handles audio, video, and the livestream broadcast.
Expositional Preaching Through Whole Books of the Bible
From the pulpit, Pastor Meadows walks the congregation through books of the Bible week after week. Recent series have included an extended study of Romans and a yearlong journey through the Psalms, with individual messages titled around the themes of the text, such as "No Condemnation," "Victory in Jesus," "The Blessed Man," and "How to Have a Good Day." Earlier series covered the Gospel of Mark under the heading "Who Is This Man?," the book of Daniel, Ecclesiastes, and a series on the church's core values.
"The preaching of the Word of God is the most important mark of the church," the church states in its values. "We value text-driven preaching that starts with the text, is shaped by the text, and stays with the text."
Eight Values That Shape Everything
A list of eight values runs through every ministry at PSBC. Together they give the congregation a common language for what it believes and how it intends to live.
- The Sufficiency of Scripture - God's Word is sufficient for the work of God.
- Expositional Preaching - The church rises and falls upon the preaching of God's Word.
- Robust Doctrine - Deep doctrine develops deep Christians.
- Gospel Fluency - The gospel is the power of God at work in every area of life.
- Kingdom Priority - Christians are citizens of God's Kingdom, not consumers.
- Meaningful Membership - Belonging to Christ means belonging to a local church.
- Biblically Ordered Worship - God alone orders worship through His Word.
- The Supremacy of God - He rules and reigns over all.
Each value is anchored in passages such as Psalm 19:7-11, 2 Timothy 3:14-16, Acts 2:42-47, Romans 1:16, Matthew 28:19-20, 1 Peter 2:9-12, John 4:16-26, and 1 Chronicles 29:11-12.
A Statement of Faith Built on the Baptist Faith and Message 2000
The PSBC Statement of Faith, built on the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, lays out the church's doctrine in eighteen articles covering the Scriptures, God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), Man, Salvation, God's Purpose of Grace, the Church, Baptism and the Lord's Supper, the Lord's Day, the Kingdom, Last Things, Evangelism and Missions, Education, Stewardship, Cooperation, the Christian and the Social Order, Peace and War, Religious Liberty, and the Family.
The statement keeps baptism as the immersion of a believer in water, views the Lord's Supper as a memorial of the Redeemer's death, and identifies the pastor/elder/overseer office as a scriptural one carried out by qualified men. Members are asked not to be divisive over the issues laid out in the statement, and anyone who teaches at PSBC must do so in accordance with it.
PSBC Kids: From Nursery Through Fifth Grade
PSBC Kids exists to help aim children toward making much of God by becoming disciples of Jesus Christ. Programs are designed for every stage from birth through fifth grade.
A nursery is available for babies and toddlers on Sunday mornings during both services and during Wednesday night Bible Study. Kids Small Groups meet on Sundays at 9:45 AM, with gospel-centered, age-appropriate teaching from The Gospel Project for every age. Children's Church, for ages 3 through kindergarten, meets at 10:45 AM in Room 107 and walks through the Old and New Testaments on a three-year plan using Simply Loved curriculum.
On Wednesdays, Little Theologians runs from 6:30 PM (September through May) with the Biggest Story curriculum for PreK through elementary. In June and August, Worship on Wednesdays takes its place at 7:00 PM with a time of worship, a Bible lesson, and activities. VBS and PreTeen Camp round out the summer and back-to-school seasons. Safety protocols include background checks for every volunteer and a secure sticker check-in system for every child.
PSBC Students: Middle and High School
PSBC Students, led by Student Minister Ethan Stafford, exists to lead students to make much of God by growing and living as committed disciples of Jesus Christ.
Student Small Groups meet on Sundays at 9:45 AM and offer guided discussion through the Bible with peers. Groups are offered for middle school (Room 209), 9th and 10th grade (Room 207), and 11th and 12th grade (Student Room). On Wednesdays at 6:30 PM, the Student Midweek Service in the Student Room on the second floor covers theology, apologetics, biblical overviews, and pressing topics through games, worship, teaching, and small groups. It is open to all 6th through 12th graders and their friends.
Small Groups at 9:45
Sunday mornings at 9:45 AM are set aside for Small Groups. The groups meet on the first and second floors of the church building and exist as a community of believers who pursue true biblical fellowship. Greeters are ready to help first-time visitors find the right room.
Groups are offered for Nursery (babies and crawlers), Toddlers (walkers through age 3), Pre-K and Kindergarten, 1st through 3rd grade, 4th through 5th grade, middle school, 9th through 12th grade, College and Career, two adult classes named Adults 1 and Adults 2, Hope, Joy (50s and 60s), Faith (a women's class), and two senior adult classes (Campbell and Builders).
The Women: Discipleship Dinners
Women's Ministry at PSBC centers on a program called The Gathering: Discipleship Dinners. These are small, multi-generational lunch and dinner groups that meet monthly from September through May to cultivate intentional friendships and provide encouragement. The gatherings are designed to give women across generations a place to connect, study, and pray together.
From Hiram to the Nations
Missions is one of the central ministries of PSBC. The church follows the Acts 1:8 strategy of taking the gospel from Hiram, to the country, and to the ends of the earth.
Local partners include Capitol Commission, CAYA, Helping Hands, and Paulding Pregnancy Services. National partners include Annie Armstrong, Hope Community Church (New York City), Immanuel Community Church (New Orleans), New City Church, and Oaks Community Church (Naples). International partners include the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for international missions and field efforts in Penas Blancas, Ecuador and Nice, France. Monthly mission projects invite the congregation to give specific goods - for example, pasta and spaghetti sauce are collected for CAYA - so that members of every age can participate.
Online and Connected
For those who cannot join in person, livestreamed services are broadcast on Sundays at 10:45 AM and Wednesdays at 7:20 PM. Streams are available on Facebook, YouTube, and Vimeo. Sermon audio is distributed through the PSBC podcast on Spotify, and recordings remain available after each service ends. A weekly email newsletter keeps the wider church connected to upcoming events.

Pastoral and Ministry Staff
Wayne Meadows serves as Senior Pastor. A native of nearby Powder Springs and a graduate of McEachern High School, Meadows later earned a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has pastored Poplar Springs since 2012 and is joined in ministry by his wife Cathy and their four children.
Jeremy Digsby has served as Executive Minister since September 2021. A graduate of Leavell College, he leads the Small Group and Men's ministries and works alongside the Senior Pastor in directing the mission of the church. Miranda Carter came on staff in January 2022 as Children's Minister and oversees all activities, services, and programs for children from birth through fifth grade. Paul Halberstadt serves as Music Minister, and Ethan Stafford, who joined the staff in December 2020, leads the student ministry.
