Placentia Presbyterian Church has stood on Bradford Avenue in the city of Placentia for more than a century. Generations of families have walked through its patio to the Worship Center, and the congregation still gathers every Sunday at 10 AM to pray, sing, baptize, and break bread together. The church describes itself as generous, inclusive, and rooted in the way of Jesus, and members say its mission is to engage all ages in following Christ together.
A Diagonal Church That Welcomes Honest Questions
Placentia Presbyterian Church sits within the Presbyterian Church (USA), a denomination its members value for health and wisdom in leadership and orderly worship. The congregation does not present itself as a political church. As the leadership puts it, PPC is not a left or right church but a diagonal one, allowing honest critique of the age alongside Biblically-based instruction for engaging it. Anyone is welcome to join in worship, to explore faith in a small group, or to serve in the community.
The vows that new members take spell out the church's shared commitments. Members affirm faith in Jesus Christ as their salvation, promise to grow as disciples, share the good news of God's Kingdom in word and deed, and participate actively in the life, worship, and mission of the church.
Sundays at 10 AM: Blended Worship on Bradford Avenue
The Sunday service follows the classic Presbyterian shape of Gathering, Word, and Sacrament, the same order that has structured Reformed worship for generations. A praise band forms the musical foundation of the service, and when the Scripture and season call for it, the congregation also hears the in-house organ or choral selections from members. The result is a blended style that leans modern but leaves room for traditional hymns.
Teaching is Biblically-based and practically-minded. Pastor Ryan Romberg and guest preachers aim to help people fall in love with Scripture and to preach the welcome of Jesus without softening the call of God's Kingdom. Services are held in the Worship Center, accessible through the patio in the center of the campus. Visitors can park anywhere along the driveway or around the back of the church, and dress ranges from Sunday semi-formal to cowboy or beach casual.
Sermons are livestreamed on the church's YouTube channel and archived online for replay. Recent series have included Vote for Jesus, Martyr: the word of our testimony, Revelation for Real, WORTHY FRUIT, and Jesus Be The Center, with guest preachers such as Errol Thompson, Betty Escobosa, Phil Rollins, and Garrett Erickson filling the pulpit on rotation.
Kids Stay for Worship, Then Head to Their Own Lesson
Placentia Presbyterian takes seriously the finding that young people who worship with the whole church are more likely to follow Jesus after high school. Children age three and older are welcome to start in the service with a parent or guardian. Before the teaching begins, kids are sent out with Mr. Luke and the Kids Min volunteers for their own lesson, crafts, and fun. Pick-up is located immediately connected to the Worship Center, with signs guiding families the short distance.
The youth ministry is in a season of rebuilding. The church is currently hiring a youth pastor and shaping a program that will let young people thrive and contribute to the life of the congregation. Until that hire is complete, students are encouraged to stay in the main service alongside their families.
Discipleship Pathways: 101, 201, and 301
One of the cornerstones of life at PPC is the three-stage Discipleship Pathway. The 101, 201, and 301 classes form a structured path for newcomers and longtime members alike, covering the basics of Christian faith and Presbyterian practice, growing in spiritual habits, and finding a place to lead and serve. Groups and the full church calendar live on the Church Center platform, with a mobile app available for download.
Weekly updates arrive by subscription email every week, and a prayer request address is monitored for those who want the pastoral team to pray on their behalf.
Rooted in Placentia for Over a Century
The church has been part of Placentia for over a hundred years, worshiping God and serving its neighbors across generations. That long presence shapes the church's self-understanding: PPC is a community church that wants to remain rooted in its city even as the surrounding area changes. Members serve locally through the life of the church, and the building itself is opened up for community use beyond Sunday morning.
Event Rentals: Opening the Doors to the Neighborhood
The church rents its rooms for banquets, celebrations, and fundraisers. Anyone interested in hosting an event can download a facilities use application from the church or reach out through the contact page to begin the conversation. The same rooms that fill with worship on Sunday morning host the weddings, milestone parties, and community gatherings of Placentia throughout the week.
Giving, Connecting, and Staying in Touch
Placentia Presbyterian sees giving as a central part of following Jesus, an offering of gratitude that funds the church's mission and ministry. One-time and recurring gifts can be made online. Visitors who want to know more about what PPC believes or how to get involved can fill out a welcome form, subscribe to the weekly email, or download the Church Center app for calendar, groups, and giving in one place.
Office hours run Tuesday through Thursday from 10 AM to 2 PM, and the church can be reached at 714-528-1438 or info@ppc.church. The office sits on the same Bradford Avenue campus where the congregation has gathered for over a century, ready to welcome the next family that walks through the patio.
