Orchard Avenue Baptist Church has been meeting on the north side of Vacaville at 301 N. Orchard Avenue for years, and the church's own tagline, "It's All About Families," tells you what shapes its schedule and its programs. From the nursery and preschool on the same campus to Wednesday night AWANA clubs and a Spanish-language service on Sunday mornings, the congregation is built around households worshiping and learning together. Pastor Ken Doan leads the church with Pastor Mark Reeves serving as assistant teaching pastor.
Sunday Mornings on Orchard Avenue
The Sunday rhythm at Orchard starts at 10:00 AM with a slate of Bible study groups for every age. Adults have two main options: a Topic Study Group led by one of the pastors in the Family Center, designed for those who like to dig deep into the Bible, and a more casual Cafe Fellowship Group in the church cafe, where the conversation centers on a new topic each week. Teens gather for New Life Youth in Room C4, and children head into the kids wing for Sunday school classes. Visitors are encouraged to try both adult groups and see which fits.
At 11:00 AM the congregation moves into the auditorium, the larger of the two main buildings on campus (the one with the arches). The worship band leads a set of music, and then one of the pastors walks through a Bible lesson. The service is contemporary in feel and designed to be encouraging for anyone, whether a longtime believer or someone walking in for the first time.
Children from Nursery through Sixth Grade
Kids are at the center of life at Orchard. Three Sunday morning classes run from 10:00 AM to noon, and every volunteer who works with children has been live scanned for safety, with additional security staff patrolling the campus. The Nursery serves children up to age 3. A separate class for ages 4 and 5 uses engaging activities and lessons to introduce Jesus. Children in first through sixth grade meet together, and at 11:00 AM they walk over to the main building to join their parents for worship music before heading back to class for the rest of the hour.
On Wednesday nights, AWANA Clubs take over the kids wing. AWANA runs from 6:30 to 8:15 PM, beginning in September and continuing through May, and emphasizes Scripture memory, life-long discipleship, and good old-fashioned fun. A separate Wednesday youth program for teens meets at 7:00 PM, combining fellowship with a weekly lesson.
Teens, Men, and the Wider Church Family
The youth ministry also gathers beyond Sunday morning. New Life Youth meets in Room C4 at 10:00 AM and joins the main service at 11:00, then returns on Wednesday evenings. A monthly Youth Game Night is held at a leader's home, and the church calendar also lists a regular Men's Breakfast on Saturday mornings at Original Mel's in Vacaville. The ladies of the church participate each fall in the NCARBC Ladies' Retreat, a weekend getaway hosted under the banner of the Northern California Association of Regular Baptist Churches.
Iglesia en Español
Orchard's Spanish-speaking ministry meets on Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 11:00 AM in the same campus at 301 N. Orchard Avenue. The service includes music and the preaching of God's Word for the whole family. On the first and third Sundays of each month, Bible studies for women and for men follow the worship service. Rigoberto is the contact person for the Spanish ministry and can be reached at (707) 639-3609; the ministry also has a Facebook page under "Iglesia.esperanza2." Additional small group meetings take place in homes during the week.
Special Needs Ministry
The church maintains a dedicated ministry for individuals and families affected by special needs, and it appears in the main navigation alongside the other age-group ministries. The page is part of how Orchard describes itself as a church that welcomes every member of a household.
What Orchard Believes
The church teaches that sin separates people from God, and that God loved the world so much that He sent His Son Jesus to take the punishment for sin in our place through His death. Three days later God raised Jesus from the dead, and those who accept what He has done make it their aim to follow Jesus in everything. The church also affirms that every person has purpose and value in God's eyes and that He wants a deep, personal relationship with each one.
What to Expect on a First Visit
There is no dress code at Orchard, and the church encourages visitors to focus on the service rather than on clothing. Parking is available on both the north and south sides of the campus, with reserved visitor spots close to the main doors and handicapped spaces in front of the flagpoles. The smaller building on the right is the Family Center; the larger building on the left with the arches is the auditorium, and both are wheelchair accessible, with ramps up to the front doors. No one is expected to give; offerings are left to the individual.
Sermons, Giving, and Staying Connected
Sermons are livestreamed each Sunday at 11:00 AM on the church's Facebook page, and an archive of more than fifty pages of messages stretches back over a decade. Topics range from the Gospel, salvation, and resurrection to marriage, parenting, stress, and missions, with a steady supply of new material each week. Online giving is available through the church's Breeze portal, and the church calendar lists every regular meeting along with seasonal events like the NCARBC Ladies' Retreat and the Harvesters' potluck lunch.
A Preschool on the Same Campus
Orchard Avenue Baptist Pre-School shares the church's Orchard Avenue address, and the two operate together. The preschool's calendar tracks the church office calendar, with closures observed on the same holidays, and the Sunday morning kids wing sits right next to the preschool, making drop-off a one-campus experience for many local families.
