Northside Baptist Church sits at 1140 Curtis Street in Rock Hill, South Carolina, just off East Main Street and within sight of the railroad tracks that run through the north side of the city. The church's identity - written across the top of its pages as "Glorify God = Make Disciples" - shapes everything from its Sunday rhythm to its mission trips. Members describe Northside as a community of believers in Jesus Christ with a clear passion for deep discipleship and far reaching community engagement, and the rhythm of weekly and yearly programs reflects those two commitments.
The building itself is set up for the way the church describes itself: a sanctuary opens from the Curtis Street entrance, with the preschool building next door housing the nursery and early childhood rooms, and a fellowship hall and small auditorium handling the larger meals, training nights, and conferences.
Sundays at 9:15 and 10:30
Northside's Sunday rhythm is built around two anchors. At 9:15 a.m., the Core Hour gathers adults, students, and children for classes at the same time so that families end up in the same passage of Scripture each week. Adult Connect Groups meet across the campus, while Preschool Sunday School (ages 3-5), Children's Sunday School (grades 1-5), and the Nursery (age 3 and younger) all meet in the preschool building. The Student Connect Group for middle and high schoolers meets at the same hour. Together these classes are currently walking through The Gospel Project, a three-year study that traces the whole story of Scripture and points every page to Jesus.
At 10:30 a.m., the whole church gathers in the sanctuary for the worship service. The order of service includes singing, Scripture readings, prayer, and a sermon. Music blends contemporary songs with modern arrangements of hymns, led by the church's worship team. The preaching is Bible-based and aimed at helping the congregation apply Scripture to daily life.
Members of the Welcome Team are stationed at the main entrances from the moment the doors open. They are ready to greet guests, help with directions, and answer questions about the church. Guest parking is reserved along Curtis Street in front of the main entrance, with the larger lot accessible from Poplar Street or Curtis Street also available.
Anyone who cannot be there in person can watch the livestream each Sunday morning. Past sermons are posted as video and as a podcast on Spotify, so the week's message can be revisited during the week or caught up on later.
Children and Students
Children's ministry at Northside is organized around three Sunday morning classes that meet during the 9:15 a.m. Core Hour, plus a children's church during the 10:30 a.m. service. In the Preschool building, children age 3 and younger enjoy the nursery with age-appropriate story time, songs, and play. Children ages 3-5 attend the first part of the worship service with their families and are dismissed to children's church just before the sermon, giving them an early experience of corporate worship. Sunday school for 3-year-olds to fifth graders uses interactive Bible stories, music, games, and crafts. All children's ministry workers have been background checked and trained, and a check-in system is used for the nursery.
Northside Students is a discipleship-focused ministry for middle and high schoolers. In addition to the 9:15 a.m. Sunday Connect Group, students meet again on Sunday evenings from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. for a night of friends, fun, and faith. The student ministry uses The Gospel Project alongside the adults and children, so a family can talk about the same passage at dinner that they all studied that morning.
Special student events include Night Vision, an annual overnight lock-in; SummerSalt, a week-long summer camp held on the campus of Charleston Southern University for students in grades 6-12; an annual World Changers construction mission trip; Trunk-or-Treat; and trips such as the recent Pittsburgh Mission Trip supporting a church plant. The ministry is also active with the Winthrop BCM (Baptist Collegiate Ministry), providing meals for students during the academic year.
Connect Groups and Discipleship
The Connect Groups are the church's primary small-group strategy. They meet at 9:15 a.m. on Sundays, alongside the children's and student classes, and they are designed to help people build meaningful relationships with other believers while walking through the same Gospel Project curriculum as the rest of the church. Connect Group Leader Training is held periodically, and groups open and close as interest shifts. For those exploring membership, Northside 101 is a four-week introduction held during the Core Hour on Sunday mornings.
Beyond the small groups, the church encourages a household reading habit through a yearly Bible Reading Plan, distributed as a PDF and refreshed each year. The 2026 plan asks readers to work through about five days a week as a church family.
Missions and Outreach
Northside takes an active part in missions on three fronts: local, national, and international. Locally, the church partners with Northside Elementary School, the public elementary school that shares the church's name and neighborhood. Each summer, a Crossroads Kids Club orientation is held at the church to recruit volunteers and prayer support for a Gospel-oriented after-school program. Trunk-or-Treat each October invites the wider Rock Hill community onto the church campus for an evening of decorated trunks, candy, and family fun, with volunteers needed for greeting, parking, and food.
Operation Christmas Child is another recurring outreach. Each November the church hosts an OCC Packing Party to fill shoeboxes, and a team drives up to the Charlotte distribution center to inspect and process boxes for shipping. Funds raised through the annual Youth Spaghetti Lunch Fundraiser go toward student summer camp and the World Changers mission trip.
Nationally, Northside sends teams to projects ranging from disaster recovery in Puerto Rico (a family-friendly trip for ages 13 and up, run in cooperation with the North American Mission Board and Send Relief) to weekend trips supporting a church plant the congregation helps fund in Pittsburgh. Internationally, the church supports IMB missionaries and has sent teams to assist with missionary training events in Greece.
Each year, the church also gathers with other Pillar churches in Rock Hill for a Community Thanksgiving Service hosted at one of the partner congregations.
Beliefs
Northside's statement of faith centers on four pillars. Jesus is the unique Son of God, whose sinless life, practical teaching, atoning death, and resurrection show believers both how to be right with God and how to live under Christ as King. The Bible is the perfect written Word of God and the final authority on all matters of faith and practice, the tool by which the church knows the living Word, Jesus Christ. The Gospel is not only the means of salvation but also the pattern for daily life, shaping how the congregation speaks the truth in love in a divided world. The church itself is the people of God, the redeemed humanity that God is making through the Gospel - not an optional extra but the family in which believers are intended to grow, serve, and submit.
The congregation points to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, the confession of faith adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention.
Pastoral Leadership
Scott Davis has served as senior pastor of Northside since 2012. Before coming to Rock Hill, he pastored churches in Florida, North Carolina, and Kentucky, and he earned his graduate and post-graduate degrees from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife Marcie have four children - Chloe, Caleb, Kylie, and Colin - and the family shares a home with two dogs, a cat, and four chickens.
Angela Seed, who was born and raised in Rock Hill, serves as Office Manager and joined the staff in 2018. She handles the administrative work that keeps the church's calendar, facility, and communications running smoothly, and she is the first point of contact for office business during the week.
Getting Involved, Giving, and Staying Connected
Guests are encouraged to let the church know they are coming through Plan A Visit so that a welcome team member can be ready to greet them. New visitors who want to learn more about joining the church can attend Northside 101, a four-week Sunday morning introduction held during the Core Hour, or the Membership Lunch & Learn that Pastor Scott hosts periodically.
There are four ways to give at Northside. Online gifts can be made through the church's giving portal, with a 2.15 percent plus $0.30 transaction fee on card donations and a $0.30 fee on ACH bank transfers. Donations can also be sent by text message to the church phone number, set up through a bank's online bill pay, or placed in the giving boxes in the sanctuary or mailed to the church office. The church office is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Weekly updates are sent by email through the church newsletter. Sermon videos, the sermon podcast on Spotify, livestreams, and archived event pages all keep the congregation, and the wider community, connected to the teaching and ministries of Northside Baptist Church week by week.
