One Church on East Main Street, Another in Newark
Marlton Assembly of God sits on East Main Street in the heart of Evesham Township, a multi-cultural and multi-generational Pentecostal congregation that describes its mission in a single phrase: developing fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. The Marlton campus, led by Senior Pastor Jon Wegner and his wife Miriam, has grown into a regional hub that now extends well beyond Burlington County through a partnership with Vailsburg Assembly of God in Newark. Together, leadership describes the work as "one church in two locations," with both campuses sharing the same vision and weekly prayer gathering.
The Marlton building is more than a sanctuary. It houses a full Christian academy, a family sports complex, and classrooms for every age group. The campus draws families from across South Jersey, while the Vailsburg campus focuses on reaching the inner city of Newark. The two congregations join together for a Wednesday United Prayer Service, then return to their own neighborhoods for Sunday worship.
Sunday Mornings on East Main Street
Weekend services at Marlton Assembly of God are held on Sundays at 9:00 and 10:45 am, with both gatherings offering the same format. The worship style is contemporary and charismatic, led by Worship Director and Creative Arts Coordinator Abigail Ferren alongside Digital Media and Production Director Tyler Ferren. Services are livestreamed through Church Online, so anyone unable to attend in person can still participate from home.
Families arriving with children will find a full Kids Ministry running during both services. First-time guests can stop at the Kids Registration area to complete a simple form and receive a parent pick-up security tag, which is required at dismissal. The nursery for infants and toddlers up to age two is staffed in the Toddler Wing. From there, children move through age-specific rooms: Toddler Church for two- and three-year-olds, Preschool for four- and five-year-olds not yet in kindergarten, and Kids Zone for kindergarten through fifth grade.
For those ready to take a next step, the church offers a Connect Class that walks newcomers through the story, mission, and values of Marlton Assembly of God in about two hours. Pizza with the Pastors is another easy entry point, an informal gathering designed to help newcomers meet the staff, ask questions, and find their way in.
Kids, Youth, and Young Adults
Marlton Kids, the children's ministry, runs from birth through fifth grade and is overseen by Children's Pastor Keith Applegarth and Miriam Wegner. Each age group has its own room, curriculum, and team of volunteers. The ministry's stated goal is to help kids become fully devoted followers of Jesus in a fun, engaging, and safe environment, with the conviction that children are a vital part of the church today, not just tomorrow.
Marlton Youth Church, known as MYC, serves students in grades six through twelve and is led by Executive Pastor of Next Steps and Youth Ministry Mike Cooper, Junior High Youth Pastor Dave Kinney, and Senior High Youth and Young Adults Pastor Cooper Davis. Junior high students meet on Friday nights at 6:30 pm, while senior high students gather on Sunday nights at 5:30 pm. Each gathering includes worship, a teaching message, and gender- and age-specific small groups. United Nights bring all grades together once a month, and the MYC calendar is filled with retreats, camps, conventions, and an annual "Sent Trip" to the Vailsburg campus for outreach and service.
Marlton Young Adults is designed for adults ages eighteen to thirty. The ministry centers on an in-depth Bible study that meets weekly, with additional worship nights, social events like summer barbecues and Friendsgiving, and a small group built around community and discipleship.
Small Groups and Discipleship
Small Groups are the backbone of life at Marlton Assembly of God. Groups meet in person and on Zoom, typically with fifteen to twenty people, and run on a semester schedule. The Winter/Spring semester runs from February through May, and the Fall semester runs from October through December. Sign-ups for each semester open a few weeks beforehand, and Group Leaders follow up with interested participants to help them find a good fit based on location, interest, and schedule.
Anyone can also propose and lead a group. The church encourages leaders to build groups around shared activities, books of the Bible, or service interests. For those wanting to grow further, the Summer Follow Class is an eight-week study open to new believers and longtime Christians alike, and Learning to Follow Jesus is a seven-step discipleship resource available through the church. Marlton Christian Academy and the Field House
Marlton Christian Academy operates on the Marlton property as a partner ministry of the church. The academy offers preschool and a full-day kindergarten through fifth-grade program, with Preschool Director Nona Eldabh and oversight from Miriam Wegner. The academy emphasizes academic excellence alongside a Christian foundation, partnering with parents to help each child grow academically and spiritually.
The Field House at Marlton Assembly of God is the church's sports and recreation facility, used for leagues, camps, clinics, and community events. It serves both the church family and the wider Evesham Township community, giving families a place to gather outside of Sunday morning.
GroundZero is another partner ministry, a School of Discipleship aimed at college-aged students. It blends higher education with hands-on ministry, missions, and community living, and is overseen by Executive Pastor of Creative Arts and GroundZero Devin Adams.
Missions and Embrace Grace
Marlton Assembly of God supports roughly 140 missionaries and missions endeavors around the world through prayer and financial giving, channeled through Faith Promise pledges. Each year, the church organizes several short-term missions trips, both local outreach projects such as block parties in North Philadelphia and National Night Out service in Marlton, and overseas trips to partner regions. A staff evangelist, Jermel Mayo, also leads the church in personal evangelism efforts.
Embrace Grace is a local ministry for single and pregnant young women and their families. Through support groups, Embrace Grace offers practical, spiritual, and emotional care, with the message that a woman can have both her baby and her dreams. Senior Pastor Jon Wegner leads the congregation alongside a broad staff team. Executive Pastor Adam Yaros oversees finance and operations. Executive Pastor Twyla Kuntz leads missions and leadership development. Discipleship and Outreach Pastor Dan Fisher coordinates those areas, while Kerlin Mejia serves as the Vailsburg Campus Pastor. Keith Applegarth leads Children's Ministry, Mike Cooper leads Next Steps and Youth, Cooper Davis leads Senior High Youth and Young Adults, and Dave Kinney leads Junior High Youth. Abigail Ferren directs worship and creative arts, and Tyler Ferren oversees digital media and production.
Beliefs in the Assemblies of God Tradition
As an Assemblies of God congregation, Marlton Assembly of God holds to the denomination's sixteen Statement of Fundamental Truths. The church teaches that the Scriptures are inspired by God, that salvation comes through the shed blood of Jesus Christ alone, and that the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a distinct experience following salvation, with speaking in tongues as the initial physical evidence, just as on the day of Pentecost. The church practices two ordinances, water baptism by immersion and Holy Communion, and looks for the imminent return of Christ, the rapture of the saints, and a final judgment.
The church also affirms divine healing as part of the gospel, the one true God revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the millennial reign of Christ, and the promise of new heavens and a new earth. Sanctification is taught as an ongoing process of separation from evil and dedication to God.
