Reaching Conway for Christ

Langston Baptist Church sits along Highway 905 just outside Conway, South Carolina, and calls itself by a single mission phrase: "Reaching Conway For Christ." The congregation that gathers there is one of the larger in the area, with three Sunday morning Bible study hours, two morning worship services, a Wednesday night ministry for the entire family, and a Parents' Day Out preschool in its kids wing. A senior pastor, an associate pastor, a college pastor, a student pastor, a senior adult pastor, and a full children's, worship, and creative team shape a church built on a deep Sunday school culture.

Sundays on SC-905

Langston's Sunday rhythm is built around three back-to-back Bible study hours. Sunday school classes meet at 8:00, 9:30, and 10:30 in the morning, with adult classes taught by teachers such as Richard Causey, Brad Hill, Carl Lawrimore, Mike Hucks, Ron Hucks, Ray Thompkins, Mike Faircloth, Pastor Timmy Blair, Autry Benton, Tim Tummond, Wendy Blair, Chris and Roxanne Bradey, Shannon Felix, and Chris Johnson. Several classes are open to all adults, while others are designed as Adult Ladies, Adult Couples, Adult Men, or Senior Ladies groups. The 9:30 hour is the busiest, with the Causey class averaging around 98 adults, the Hucks class 31, and Pastor Timmy Blair's class 30.

Worship services follow at 9:00 and 10:30 in the morning. Each gathering includes congregational singing led by the worship team, a choir-led segment, and a sermon preached from the pulpit. The same morning flow shapes every hour, so first-time guests can choose whichever service fits their schedule. Worship is livestreamed on the church's YouTube channel, so anyone who cannot be in the room can still join.

Wednesday Nights Together

Midweek ministry at Langston happens at 7:00 PM, with programs running simultaneously for adults, students, and kids. Langston Students (middle and high school) opens at 6:30 PM for games and hangout before moving into MDWK Students at 7:00. The kids wing doors also open at 6:45 PM for nursery, preschool, and elementary programming. Adults gather in the sanctuary for a service of their own.

In addition, Senior Adults meet for a weekly Community Bible Study at 10:30 AM each Wednesday in the choir room behind the stage, and the 60+ ministry hosts a monthly luncheon on the first Wednesday at 11:30 AM in the Event Center, with quarterly outings and fellowship events throughout the year.

A Worship Family of Bands, Choirs, and Praise Teams

Worship at Langston is led by a team rather than a single musician. Noah Roach serves as Worship Pastor and Tech/AV Director, Michael Hofmann leads Student Worship, Brook Huggins directs the adult choir and leads congregational singing, Kirk Wynn oversees the worship ministry and communications, Adan Ward serves as a worship leader with a background in Southern Gospel music, and Hope Hardwick serves as Creative Director. Together they coordinate the praise team, the band, the choir, a children's choir, and a full media team that runs audio, livestream, cameras, video switching, front-of-house slides, and lighting each week.

Huggins holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Presbyterian College and a Master of Church Music from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Ward has recorded two projects of Southern Gospel and hymns and counts "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" among his favorites. Wynn came from a career of touring with Christian bands and writing in Nashville before bringing his production skills to the church.

Langston Kids and Parents Day Out

Children's ministry at Langston is organized by age. Beth Lay coordinates the nursery and preschool, Angel Sams is the Elementary Coordinator for K5 through 5th grade, Melanie Butler serves as Assistant Kids Director, and Chelsea Overcash oversees the whole Kids Ministry. On Sunday mornings, doors open at 8:45 AM for nursery, preschool, and elementary programming that runs through both worship services. Wednesday nights open at 6:45 PM with separate programming for each age group. Elementary students spend Sunday mornings in a combination of hang-out time, small groups, and a large group gathering.

Langston Kids PDO

The church also operates Langston Kids PDO, a Parents' Day Out program in the Kids Wing. PDO serves children ages six months through five years on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The program weaves Bible stories, prayer, and Christ-centered teaching into structured routines designed around three classrooms: Littles and Toddlers for sensory play and foundational skills, Twos and Threes for early learning and social development, and Pre-K for kindergarten readiness. Director Maggie Jones leads the program, which operates on simple monthly tuition with a one-time annual registration fee.

Students, College, and Young Adults

Langston has a full generation-specific ministry for middle school, high school, college, and young adults. Keith Autry Benton III serves as Student Pastor and leads the 9:30 AM Sunday school hour, after which students join the sanctuary for 10:30 worship. Wednesday nights bring MDWK Students, with games and hangout at 6:30 and the service at 7:00. Student ministry has its own Instagram and Facebook pages (@langstonstudents) for ongoing updates.

College ministry is led by PJ Cuba, who graduated from Conway Christian School and previously served as a college pastor in Knoxville. He teaches a 9:30 AM Bible study and coordinates Wednesday night gatherings for college students, with a dedicated @langstoncollege Instagram account. A Young Adults Bible study for college and career ages also meets at 9:30 AM on Sundays and 7:00 PM on Wednesdays.

Sixty-Plus and a House Full of Bible Studies

Langston's senior adult ministry is led by Bruce Davenport, who has been on the church staff since June 1, 1999. He now serves as Pastor of Senior Adults and oversees the Wednesday 10:30 AM Community Bible Study, the monthly 60+ luncheon, and a calendar of quarterly outings. The ONE ACCORD Single Ladies group meets on the second Saturday of each month, and an annual 60+ day trip takes seniors to a regional destination.

The depth of the church's Bible study culture shows in its fifteen-plus Sunday classes for adults, men, ladies, couples, and seniors. Several classes are designed for specific life stages, including a Senior Ladies class, an Adult Couples class led by Chris and Roxanne Bradey, Adult Ladies classes, and Adult Men classes. New classes are launched regularly; a recent addition is taught by Bud Johns and John Hendrick at 8:00 AM.

Standing on the Word

The church's doctrinal foundation is laid out plainly. Langston believes the Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God and is the basis for its statement of faith. The church subscribes to the doctrinal statement of "The Baptist Faith and Message 2000" as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention. Around that anchor the church organizes its ministry into four directions, captured by the phrases "Reach Up" through worship, "Reach Down" through missions and service, "Reach In" through discipleship, and "Reach Out" through evangelism to neighbors and the nations.

Pastors and Staff

The pastoral team is led by Senior Pastor Brandon Blair, a Marine Corps infantry veteran and Purple Heart recipient who attended Southeastern and Fruitland Baptist Bible College and now preaches most weekends. Timmy Blair serves as Associate Pastor and also teaches a Sunday school class. PJ Cuba is College Pastor, Keith Autry Benton is Student Pastor, Bruce Davenport is Senior Adult Pastor, Michael Hofmann is Student Worship Pastor, and Noah Roach is Worship Pastor and Tech/AV Director. Brook Huggins is Choir Director and Worship Leader, Kirk Wynn is Director of Worship, and Adan Ward is a Worship Leader. On the children's side, Chelsea Overcash is Kids Director, Angel Sams is Elementary Coordinator, Beth Lay is Nursery and Preschool Coordinator, and Melanie Butler is Assistant Kids Director. Maggie Jones serves as Campus Director and PDO Director.

Forward Together

The phrase "Forward together" runs across the church's online menu, and the church invites newcomers into that shared direction through a Connect Room in the lobby during Sunday morning services and a periodic Connection Luncheon where newcomers hear the pastor's vision and learn about ministries and serving opportunities. Giving is available online through Church Center, and visitors can register for upcoming events, reserve a spot in Parents' Day Out, or find a Bible study class through the church's online registration system.
