About Kingdom Harvest Church of God

The Wealthy Place on N. Masters Drive

Kingdom Harvest Church of God in Christ sits at 215 N. Masters Drive in southeast Dallas, where Bishop Dexter L. Coleman, Sr. has shepherded the same body of believers since the early 1980s. The congregation calls itself "The Wealthy Place", a name rooted in a long Pentecostal and Church of God in Christ tradition that points to the manifest presence of God gathering among his people. What marks a Sunday at Kingdom Harvest is that presence: a great move of God in a charismatic atmosphere that the church describes as "set to usher in the omnipotent God."

A Heritage of Holiness

The church's motto is taken from Psalm 37:4: "Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart." That verse is paired with Hebrews 12:14 as the second pillar of the church's identity: "Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord." Kingdom Harvest presents itself as a Pentecostal body of believers who promote holiness as a lifestyle, and they have grown enough over the decades to expand both their seating and parking facilities to keep up with the harvest.

Pastors Who Have Shaped the Church

Bishop Dexter L. Coleman, Sr., a Dallas native, was called by God and began serving as pastor of Bethel Church of God in Christ in 1980. In 1985 the work was incorporated as Kingdom Harvest Church of God in Christ. Over the years Bishop Coleman has served as District Superintendent of the Lighthouse District of Dallas and, since 1992, as the founding District Superintendent of the Kingdom Harvest District. He also chairs the Greater Oak Cliff Fellowship and serves as State Executive Secretary of the Texas Northeast Third Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. He is a Holy Ghost filled preacher with a Pentecostal flavor who leads with the motto "No Soul Be Left Behind."

His wife of more than thirty-six years, Lady Paula Coleman, known to the church as the "Princess of Praise," serves as First Lady and President of the Women's Department. Her vision is to lift up the name of Jesus by enriching and empowering women to discover their leadership and ministries within the home, the church, and the community.

The Weekly Rhythm of Worship

The week at Kingdom Harvest is anchored in three set times of gathering. Sunday School begins at 9:00 a.m., followed by Morning Worship at 10:00 a.m. Every Sunday morning service is also carried on Facebook Live for those who cannot attend in person. Tuesdays carry two parallel gatherings at 7:30 p.m.: an Adult Bible Study and the Youth Training Hour. Short, focused prayer services are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. The church office is open Tuesday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

What the Church Believes

Kingdom Harvest's Statement of Faith reads in the language of classical Pentecostalism. Members hold the Bible to be the inspired and only infallible written Word of God, and they affirm one God eternally existent in three Persons. Salvation is described as coming through repentance, faith in the precious blood of Jesus Christ, water baptism, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit. The church teaches that the redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides healing for the human body through believing prayer, that the baptism in the Holy Spirit according to Acts 2:4 is given to believers who ask for it, and that the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit enables a holy and separated life in this present world.

Children and Youth: "Old School Holiness Meets the 21st Century"

The Youth Ministry walks with children from age three through eighteen, offering age-appropriate weekly classes and lessons, plus Easter and Christmas programs that focus on the true meaning of those seasons. Each summer the church runs a week-long themed Vacation Bible School. Past themes have included "Geeked for God" and "Just Do It." On the fourth Sunday of every month, the pews fill with the Youth Worship Explosion: high praise and worship, jubilant singing, a youth talent hour, a "Techie Hour" with social media sharing, and the always-popular Sunday Selfie.

Children and teens rotate through every part of church life during their month: Praise Team, Ushers, Greeters, Drama/Mime, Choir and Musicians, and Bible Study. Outings have included holiday lights at the Anatole and trips to Lake of the Pines in Tyler.

The Women's Department: Sister Connect

For more than twenty years the Kingdom Harvest Women's Department has gathered women for fellowship, training, Bible study, nurturing, and evangelism under the banner of Sister Connect. Lady Paula Coleman teaches the "Total Woman" concept, encouraging women to realize and discover their leadership and ministries in the home, the church, and the community.

Several recurring events mark the women's calendar. 5th Sunday Women's Day features women ministering with their gifts, with Lady Paula exhorting through messages inspired by the Holy Spirit. The Annual Women's Retreat offers women a getaway for fellowship, workshops, spa time, and an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The Annual "Lemonade" Service turns life's lemons into lemonade through testimonies, sermons, and singing. A monthly Health Team presentation keeps women educated on nutrition, exercise, and overall health.

Reaching Out Beyond the Walls

Two outreach efforts are deeply tied to the Coleman's family story. The Justin Project, named in memory of their late son Justin LePaul Coleman, provides need-based assistance to local military families throughout the year and sends care packages to service members deployed abroad. In 2000 Bishop Coleman launched the city-wide outreach project "Operation: Turn the City Upside Down", emphasizing outreach throughout the city and country. His later ministry, God's Fresh Manna Ministries, focuses on awakening a more forceful outreach through the delivery of the fresh manna of God's Word. Shepherds of the Women's Department also partner with The Family Place and other social service agencies throughout the Dallas Metroplex.

The Departments That Run the Church

Behind the public ministries stands a working family of boards and departments: the Youth Department, the Women's Department, the Brotherhood, the Choir, the Deacon and Trustees Board, Hospitality, the Ministerial Staff, the Ministers' Wives and Deaconess, the Missionary Board, the Mothers' Board, the Sunday School Department, and the Usher Board. Together they keep a growing, multi-generational church humming from one Sunday to the next.
