Harmony Grove Community Church sits along Harmony Grove Road about three miles north of Dover, Pennsylvania, where a country lane leads visitors past open fields to a church that calls itself independent, Bible-believing, and rooted in three short phrases: Love God, Love Others, Love the Community. The congregation gathers each week to worship, study Scripture, and serve its neighbors in northern York County, and what stands out first is the willingness to keep the focus squarely on the Word of God and the work of ministry.
An Independent Bible-Believing Church North of Dover Square
Harmony Grove Community Church describes itself as an Independent Bible-Believing Church. That identity shapes everything else on the calendar. Members and visitors are greeted with a church family that emphasizes the authority and inerrancy of God's Word, treats the Old and New Testaments as a clear revelation of Jesus Christ, and selects its own teaching literature rather than following a denomination's curriculum. Evangelism and missions are strongly emphasized, and the church teaches the Word and relates it to all areas of life.
The music ministry reflects that same middle path. Services feature a well balanced mix of praise and worship music, and the preaching is described as life applicable, open-your-Bible messages - sermons meant to be taken home, opened up, and lived out.
Sundays at Harmony Grove
The weekly Sunday schedule has a steady rhythm that many rural congregations will recognize. Sunday School for all ages begins at 9:30 AM, giving families and singles a full hour of classroom teaching before the morning service. At 10:30 AM, the Worship Service gathers the church together for congregational singing, prayer, and expository preaching.
Sunday does not end at noon. At 6:30 PM, the Youth Group meets, giving teenagers a separate evening gathering of their own. The Sunday pattern of three meetings, morning Bible study, morning worship, and evening youth ministry, repeats every week.
Wednesday Nights for Kids and Adults
Wednesday is the busiest evening of the week at Harmony Grove. At 7:00 PM, the Prayer and Bible Study meeting draws adults into the same kind of verse-by-verse study that shapes Sunday mornings, while children head to two parallel programs.
Little Explorers is the church's Wednesday program for children ages 3 to 5, designed to introduce the youngest in the family to Bible stories, songs, and simple activities in a setting suited to their attention spans. AWANA, the long-running children's discipleship program, runs alongside it for children in grades 1 through 5. AWANA clubs meet from 7:00 to 8:15 PM, September through May, and are organized by grade level into two clubs: Sparks for kindergarten through second grade, and Truth and Training (T&T) for third through fifth grade. T&T itself splits into The Ultimate Adventure for third and fourth graders and The Ultimate Challenge for fifth and sixth graders, each with its own pair of Bible-centered handbooks.
The AWANA model at Harmony Grove follows the national program closely. A typical club night opens with Game Time on the AWANA circle, moves into Handbook Time in small groups led by trained adults, and closes with Bible Group Time that includes worship and a Bible lesson. Children earn AWANA cash through scripture memory and handbook work, then spend it at the AWANA Store, building early habits of generosity and reward. Special activities like parties, event nights, and mission nights are woven through the year.
Sunday School for Every Age
Sunday School at Harmony Grove is not a children's program alone. Classes are available for all ages, from the youngest learners up through adult electives, and they meet at 9:30 AM each Sunday, before the main Worship Service. The aim is the same one stated in the church's Statement of Purpose: edifying the Body of Christ through the teaching of God's Word and the leading of the indwelling Holy Spirit.
What the Church Believes
Harmony Grove's statement of faith is direct and unapologetic. The church holds to the verbally inspired Word of God, the Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and the bodily death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ. Salvation is by grace through faith, received as a free gift that cannot be earned by good works, and the Church is understood to be made up of born-again believers.
The church looks forward to a personal, pre-millennial, and imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ, with the bodily resurrection of the just at the rapture and of the unjust at the end of time. Heaven is held out as a place of eternal conscious joy for those who have received Christ, and Hell as a place of eternal conscious punishment for those who have rejected him. Satan is taught to be a personal being, a fallen angel described as the god of this age. Two ordinances are observed: water baptism by immersion and the Lord's Table.
Pastor Jim Crosley and His Family
Pastor Jim Crosley has led Harmony Grove Community Church since January 2012. Before moving to Dover, he served as a youth pastor in three different churches, an experience that shaped his bent toward the Wednesday night AWANA ministry and the Sunday evening youth group that are now central to the church's family life. He is a graduate of Cairn University, previously Philadelphia Biblical University, and holds a Master's of Ministry from Clarks Summit Seminary, previously Baptist Bible Seminary.
Pastor Jim and his wife Charlotte met at Victory Valley Camp, where each of them spent four summers on staff. They have been married for 23 years and have four children: Sydney, Chase, Cole, and Sophia. The family's story is part of how the church introduces its pastor, and the youth-ministry roots show in how the church invests in its next generation.
A Free Clothing Ministry Twice a Month
On the first and third Saturday of each month, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the church opens its Free Clothing Ministry to anyone in the community who can use it. The clothing ministry is closed on holiday weekends, but otherwise it runs on a regular schedule, offering neighbors a way to pick out clothes for their families at no cost. The ministry operates out of the church building at 6390 Harmony Grove Road, and the same two-Saturday rhythm makes it easy to plan around.
Sending and Supporting Missionaries
Harmony Grove Community Church takes seriously the call to support missions work well beyond its own neighborhood. The church lists a wide circle of missionary organizations and partnerships that it supports, including Ameri Tribes Mission, Associated Baptists for World Evangelism, Baptist Home Missions, Biblical Missions Worldwide, Brazilian Evangelistic Association, Child Evangelism Fellowship, Good News Jail and Prison Ministry, Hananeel House, Hellenic Ministries, International Partnership Ministry, Life Path Christian Ministries, Masters Mission, South American Mission, TEAM Mission, Trans World Radio, Word of Life, and Wycliffe Bible Translators. The list spans Bible translation, evangelism, prison ministry, children's outreach, and short-term missions support across multiple continents.
Tuesday Mornings and Small Touches of Care
On Tuesday mornings at 9:30 AM, the Sunshine Outreach Crocheting Ministry gathers. The crocheting group is a small but steady way for members of the church to meet, fellowship, and produce items that go toward ministry and outreach. It is one of those quiet weekday ministries that keeps a rural church connected beyond Sunday morning.
