Two Houston Campuses, One Church Family
Greater Saint Matthew Baptist Church has shaped the spiritual lives of Houstonians for nearly six decades. From its two campuses - the Southeast location on Jutland Street and the Southwest location on South Main Street - the congregation extends across the city while sharing one pastor, one pulpit, and one mission: to glorify God by reaching the lost, restoring the broken, and equipping believers to live out their faith daily. The church's 58th anniversary, observed in 2026, marks a milestone for a ministry that has grown from a single congregation into a multi-campus family with programs for every age and circumstance.
Pastor Booker and the First Family
Pastor Gusta Booker III leads Greater Saint Matthew with a clear calling to preach the Gospel and serve the surrounding community. His wife, Nicole, stands alongside him as First Lady, and together they are raising their daughter, Peyton. The Bookers' family ministry shapes the tone of the church, where members describe the community as a family founded on faith, love, and service to God.
Supporting Pastor Booker is a broad staff. Kenneth Basile directs Christian Education across the church, and the Rev. Jerome Gillespie serves as Children's Ministry Pastor, guiding children from age 3 through fifth grade to grow "in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man" (Luke 2:52).
Sunday Worship at Both Campuses
Worship takes place at both Greater Saint Matthew campuses each Sunday morning. The Southeast Campus, at 7701 Jutland Street, gathers at 8:00 AM CST. The Southwest Campus, at 14919 South Main Street, gathers at 10:00 AM CST. Both services are open to visitors, and newcomers are welcomed into a community that calls itself "a sacred place of worship, faith, and deep connection."
Services can also be joined online through the church's YouTube channel, where sermons and live broadcasts extend the church's reach beyond Houston.
Ministries for Every Generation
Greater Saint Matthew's ministry calendar reflects the range of people who call it home. Jannette Bolden coordinates the Youth Ministry for students in grades 6 through 12, building an environment that promotes spiritual growth, biblical understanding, and character development. Chetara Bridges, Christi Ozan, and Dana Pitts lead the College Ministry for adults ages 18 through 35, encouraging them to continue in biblical education and grow in unity with one another.
Marla Harvey and Dionna James head the CREW Ministry, focused on discipleship for young adults ages 18 through 50, building toward the maturity described in Ephesians 4:13. Arthur Williams and Val Brown direct the Singles Ministry, fostering fellowship, personal development, Bible studies, and meaningful relationships among single adults. Lisa Bailey oversees the S.A.L.T. Ministry for members ages 55 and older, hosting luncheons, educational workshops, and outreach opportunities that keep the church's most experienced members engaged.
Herman Burroughs leads the Men's Ministry, providing mentorship, discipleship, and outreach opportunities for the men of the church. Stephanie Collins leads the Women's Ministry, developing programs that encourage spiritual growth, fellowship, and service for women of all ages. Marty and Benita Harvey direct the Marriage Ministry, helping couples grow in Christ and strengthen their relationship with one another. Sharita Ozan oversees the Puppet Ministry, training young people to share biblical lessons through performance during worship services, children's programs, vacation Bible school, and community events.
The Deaf Ministry and the C.A.R.E. Group
Gloria Alix coordinates the Deaf Ministry, working with the pastor to present Christ to the hearing-impaired community and ensure that every member can participate fully in the life of the church. The ministry provides worship, fellowship, discipleship, and spiritual growth opportunities tailored to deaf and hearing-impaired members and their families, so that the Gospel is communicated in an accessible and meaningful way.
For those facing illness, bereavement, or other life challenges, Garland Greene leads the C.A.R.E. Group, offering regular check-ins, prayer, and compassionate care to church members and neighbors in need of fellowship and emotional support.
Counseling, Employment, and Veterans Outreach
Garland and Vera Greene also direct the Counseling Ministry, providing biblically based guidance and practical application of Scripture for individuals and families working through a wide range of life situations. When situations call for specialized support, the ministry maintains partnerships with outside agencies to provide referrals.
The Employment Ministry, led by Wayne Nunn, Ron Pierre, and Eva Mathis, takes a practical approach to community care. The team connects job seekers with career resources, hosts job-readiness workshops and resume assistance, prepares members for interviews, and builds partnerships with local employers and community organizations to help people find meaningful employment while encouraging spiritual and personal growth.
Darryl Webster leads the Veterans Ministry, developing programs that honor active-duty service members, veterans, and their families through fellowship, outreach, resource connections, and recognition events. The annual Veterans Day celebration brings both campuses together for a joint service of gratitude under the theme "Service. Sacrifice. Strength."
Hospitality, Media, and the Wider Church Calendar
Donald Bilbo and Addie Settles coordinate the Hospitality Ministry, making sure members and visitors are greeted warmly and settled comfortably before each worship service so the worship experience can be of the highest quality. Josh Booker leads the Media Ministry, overseeing audio, video, livestream, photography, presentation software, and digital communications that connect the church to worshippers both in the pews and online.
Throughout the year, Greater Saint Matthew hosts seasonal gatherings that bring the two campuses together. The Thanksgiving Eve service, the Watch Night Service on New Year's Eve, the S.A.L.T. Luncheon for seniors, and the annual Church Anniversary and Saint Fest are recurring highlights on the calendar, alongside fellowship nights hosted at the church.
