The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany sits on Custer Road in Richardson, a North Dallas suburb, and is best known for something unusual among suburban parishes: three very different Sunday worship gatherings happening under one roof. An English-language congregation meets at 8:00 and 10:00 AM, a Cambodian-language Episcopal Eucharist is celebrated at 1:00 PM, and a South Asian Anglican Eucharist in Urdu, Hindi, or Punjabi is offered on the first Sunday of each month at 4:00 PM. Sunday Worship in the Nave and the Chapel

The 10:00 AM main choral service brings the Adult Choir into the Church Nave and lasts about an hour, divided into the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Table. Both services are centered on the Great Thanksgiving and Communion, with singing, kneeling, and standing as the congregation gathers around Christ's presence in the bread and wine. A weekly Lectionary Reflection follows the 10:00 service from 11:15 AM to noon in the Chapel, giving worshipers a chance to discuss the day's readings together.

For those who prefer a different rhythm, two other Sunday offerings sit alongside the main services. The Episcopal Cambodian Holy Eucharist meets at 1:00 PM in Founders Hall, led by Pastor Albert Cheng and shaped by Khmer language, music, and Cambodian Anglican tradition. The Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi Episcopal (Anglican) Holy Eucharist is celebrated by Father Christopher Stephen on the first Sunday of each month at 4:00 PM in Servants Hall Chapel, blending the Book of Common Prayer with South Asian cultural expressions of praise and prayer.

Three Languages Around One Altar

The diversity of languages at Epiphany is part of the parish's identity, not an afterthought. The Cambodian congregation has its own Sunday gathering, its own outreach work, and a longtime pastor whose own testimony of surviving the Cambodian civil war and a prisoner-of-war camp from 1975 to 1978 has been recorded in the book Grace Will Lead Me Home by Del Hays. The South Asian congregation, led by Father Chris, also draws on the large international student population at the nearby University of Texas at Dallas; Father Chris conducts an outreach to those students as part of his ministry, and the parish's Friendship Partners program matches parishioners with international students for friendship and shared life.

The third regular weekly service in English is a contemporary-music Holy Eucharist Rite II held on the first Saturday of each month at 5:30 PM in Servants Hall Chapel. A Spanish-speaking ministry does not appear on the current schedule, but the parish's Refugee Ministry works alongside other metroplex organizations to help newcomers settling in the area.

A Weekday Rhythm Built Around the Chapel

Epiphany's calendar extends well beyond Sunday morning. Wednesdays begin with Holy Eucharist Rite I at 12:00 PM in Servants Hall Chapel, followed by the Rosary, an opportunity for those new to the prayer as well as long-time devotees. A weekly Rosary gathering also meets at 10:30 AM in the Chapel on Wednesdays. Tuesday mornings bring the Women's Bible Study at 9:15 AM over Zoom, and Tuesday mornings at 7:00 AM the Men's Bible Study reads through a book of the Bible and discusses context and life application.

Wednesday evenings are anchored by a Community Dinner from 5:30 to 7:00 PM in Founders Hall, prepared and served by church volunteers for families attending choir or evening meetings, with everyone welcome. The Epiphany Youth Community (EYC) meets on Sunday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Parish Life Center, and Wednesday evening programming for children and youth runs alongside adult studies during Lent and other seasons of the church year.

Music for Every Age

Music is at the heart of the parish's life and is led by Director of Music Corey Candler, an organist, vocalist, flutist, and composer from Shreveport, Louisiana. The Adult Choir, for singers ages sixteen and up, leads music at the principal Sunday service and sings for major feast days, including the annual Festival of Lessons and Carols in December. The Epiphany Ringers, a handbell choir for adults eighteen and up, plays regularly during Sunday worship and presents concerts periodically throughout the year. Cantors set the pitch and lead the congregation's sung responses, sometimes singing unaccompanied psalms.

Children find their place in three graded choirs that follow the Royal School of Church Music curriculum: the Cherub Choir for grades K-2, the St. Cecilia Choir for grades 3-6, and the Youth Choir for grades 7-12, which sings on the first Sunday of each month at the 11:00 AM Holy Eucharist. All three children's choirs join in the Christmas Pageant on Christmas Eve. The Director of Children and Youth Choirs, Ellen Minor, oversees these ensembles, and seasonal choirs are open to anyone who cannot make a weekly commitment: a Lessons and Carols choir in December and an Easter Vigil choir in the spring.

The centerpiece instrument in the sanctuary is the Roy Redman Opus 17 pipe organ, a tracker-action organ consecrated on December 4, 1977. Its keys connect directly to the keyboards, and it carries twenty-four stops across thirty-two ranks of pipes. Most of the original pipes, gathered by the third rector, Father Blanchard Boyer, were reused when Roy Redman of Fort Worth updated the instrument, adding only three new sets. Director Candler composed a mass setting for the dedication of Epiphany's newly constructed Servants Hall in 2016 and three selections for the parish's Jubilee celebration in 2022.

Children, Youth, and Family

Children's formation at Epiphany is built around Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a Montessori-based approach for ages three through sixth grade. In a specially prepared space called the atrium, children encounter Scripture and the liturgy through hands-on materials and quiet reflection, growing at their own pace. Children's Chapel offers an age-appropriate worship experience during both Sunday services for school-aged children, meeting during the Liturgy of the Word before the children join the adults for Communion.

The Director of The Epiphany School and Director of Family & Children's Ministry, Sarah Jo Skinner, oversees this work. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from St. Edward's University and a Master of Theology from Southern Methodist University's Perkins School of Theology, and has spent her career devoted to Christian education in Episcopal parishes and schools.

For sixth through twelfth graders, the Epiphany Youth Community gathers on Sunday evenings for fellowship, dinner, Bible study, music, and prayer, with monthly outreach to local charities and an annual summer mission trip. Recent trips have included partnership with St. Peter's in McKinney and Good Shepherd in Dallas for hurricane recovery in the Swannanoa River Valley of North Carolina and travel to Rapid City, South Dakota. Jabeen Edmund directs youth ministry and also serves as Diocesan Chair for Junior Daughters of the King.

Adult Discipleship and Small Groups

The Rector's Forum meets on Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM in Founders Hall. Other Sunday morning offerings include Searching the Word, an adult Sunday School focused on the Bible; the Upper Room, an expository study meeting in Servants Hall; Life Together, a participant-led Lectio Divina group; and Lectionary Reflections, the discussion that follows the 10:00 service in the Chapel. Canterbury Trail is a class taught by clergy and discipleship leaders that serves as preparation for those interested in baptism, confirmation, or reception into the Episcopal Church, covering Christian core beliefs, Anglicanism and Episcopal identity, worship and sacraments, prayer, and service.

Smaller groups include the Wednesday Women's Evening Study Group, Ladies Who Zoom (a book study with occasional in-person social events), the Ministry of Mothers Sharing for mothers of young children, the Career Support Ministry, the Bridge group that meets on the second Monday of each month, and One-to-One, a study designed for two parish members to invest intentionally in each other's spiritual growth. Parish-Wide Studies meet as a large group several times a year on topics such as Stewardship, Advent, and Lent.

Brotherhood, Daughters, and Pastoral Care

The Brotherhood of St. Andrew is the men's ministry at Epiphany, dedicated to prayer, study, and service to the community. The chapter meets weekly for fellowship and Bible study and gathers monthly with other chapters in the diocese. The Men's Club meets on the first and third Thursdays at 6:30 PM, gathering for a meal and conversation, often at members' homes during the summer.

The Daughters of the King is a women's prayer and service order, with a Junior Daughters of the King chapter for girls and young women ages seven to twenty-one. The St. Priscilla Chapter meets on the second Sunday of each month from 12:15 to 2:00 PM. Members make a pledge of daily prayer and service and wear a distinctive cross.

For those who are grieving, Walking the Mourner's Path is a faith-based small group program offered on a regular basis. Each eight-week session is led by trained facilitators and supported spiritually by clergy, with each participant paired with an anonymous prayer partner. The program has welcomed people at every stage of grief, and sessions close in a shared Eucharist. Materials cost $65 per person, with scholarships available. The Community of Hope provides trained lay chaplains who visit the sick and homebound, following a Rule of Life shaped by the Rule of Benedict. Parish Nurses, who are licensed registered nurses, offer holistic health support to members of the congregation and the broader community, helping with insurance questions, medication understanding, advance directives, and other health matters.

Mission Beyond the Parish

Epiphany's mission work reaches across the world. The Cambodia Mission Team has traveled to share the good news of Christ and to distribute used reading glasses in remote areas; Pastor Albert Cheng continues as a missionary to Cambodia, and his testimony is shared at Founders Hall periodically. In Honduras, the annual February mission team works with the Episcopal Diocese of Honduras under Bishop Lloyd Allen, doing construction for churches and schools, sponsoring a Christian education program for elementary-age children, and helping form prayer and study groups.

The Uganda Mission supports the Chain Foundation, an orphanage in Mukono, with quarterly sponsorship monies providing food, shelter, clothing, education, and spiritual and emotional care for the children. The team travels to Uganda roughly every other year, with the next trip planned for 2026, supporting both the orphanage and the Kellermann Foundation in southwestern Uganda, which sponsors a hospital, a nursing school, and the indigenous Batwa Pygmies. Mission U.S. takes twenty to thirty adults to serve another community in need twice a year, partnering with a local church.

At home, the Refugee Ministry supports refugees entering the country, recently collecting gently used furniture for incoming families in partnership with other metroplex ministries. Network Sundays, observed on the second Sunday of each month, collects non-perishable food and other items for the Network of Community Ministries, a Richardson-based nonprofit that serves fourteen zip codes with emergency services, senior networking, and stabilization programs.

The Community Garden

The Epiphany Neighborhood Garden covers forty leased plots and twenty-five raised beds, with plans to add a gazebo thanks to member donations. Members pay annual dues of $50 to $100 and have access to a shared tool shed, garden cart, and the new gazebo. The garden is fully organic and chemical free. At least ten percent of all produce is donated to the Network of Community Ministries, and designated garden boxes are reserved for produce that is ninety percent donated. The garden is both a fellowship ministry and a hands-on outreach opportunity.

The Epiphany School and the Crawfish Festival

The Epiphany School is a nonprofit preschool that shares God's love with families in the Richardson community. The annual Crawfish & Music Festival, which celebrated its fifteenth year in 2027, is the school's signature fundraiser. The festival brings live music, crawfish, pulled pork, fried turkey, and family activities including a petting zoo, bounce house, balloon artist, face painting, dunking booth, and a car show, with all proceeds supporting the preschool. The festival is held each spring on the church grounds, with proceeds benefiting the school.

What Epiphany Believes

Epiphany holds to the historic Anglican understanding that Holy Scripture contains all things necessary for salvation and that it is interpreted under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Book of Common Prayer, most recently revised in 1979, is the primary symbol of unity, holding together a congregation that worships in English, Khmer, and the languages of South Asia. Two foundational creeds are used in worship, the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed, joining Epiphany with Christians across the world and throughout the ages.

Two great sacraments are central: Holy Baptism and the Eucharist. Confirmation, Reconciliation of a Penitent, Matrimony, Orders, and Unction are recognized as other spiritual markers along the journey of faith.
