Crossroads Presbyterian Church sits along West Chapel Hill Road in Mequon, Wisconsin, just north of Milwaukee in Ozaukee County. From its main entrance off Highland Road at Green Bay Road, the building opens into a sanctuary that seats 650, with a Fireside Room, classrooms, and a café tucked throughout the rest of the campus. The congregation is a member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), part of the Presbytery of Milwaukee and the Synod of Lakes & Prairies, and describes itself with the words Reformed and always being reformed.
Sunday Mornings at 9:00 a.m.
Worship is the heartbeat of the week. Crossroads gathers every Sunday at 9:00 a.m. for about an hour of singing, prayer, and biblical preaching. Services are livestreamed on the church's YouTube channel and saved for later viewing, with an Order of Worship posted online each Thursday for anyone who wants to follow along.
Music crosses a wide range. Some Sundays lean contemporary with piano, guitars, drums, and a praise team, while others are more traditional with organ and choir, and many Sundays blend both. Todd O'Connor, Worship Ministry Director, and Jenee O'Connor, Worship Ministry Associate Director, plan services alongside the pastors and lead a rotation of volunteer musicians, readers, and technical teams.
Sermons are biblically grounded and speak to daily life. The current fall series, Learning to Fly: Transformed by the Spirit, runs through late November and explores how the Spirit shapes disciples over a lifetime. Communion is served on World Communion Sunday in October, and home communion is brought to members who cannot attend.
First-time visitors are greeted at the door and shown around. The sanctuary is directly to the left when entering the front doors. Dress is whatever feels comfortable - jeans, shorts, dresses, and suits all appear on Sunday morning. Children are always welcome in worship, including wiggles and whispers. Childcare for infants through age three is available all morning, and Children's Worship for ages three through first grade begins after the Time for Children about fifteen minutes into the service.
Children and Family Ministry
Under the leadership of Christa Middleton, Children and Family Ministry Director, the children's programs at Crossroads are built on partnership with parents. The ministry draws on Montessori-influenced material developed by Sonja Stewart and Jerome Berryman for Children's Worship, which begins in the sanctuary each Sunday and then moves into the Praise & Plays room for an age-appropriate liturgy of song, Bible story, wondering, prayer, and blessing.
After worship, Kids Connection Hour takes over from 10:15 to 11:00 a.m. for children age four through grade five. Each week brings something different - singing, art, games, or service projects - and on Serving Sundays the kids join youth and families to put faith into action across the community.
Other offerings for younger children include:
- Childcare for ages six months through three years during Sunday worship and select church events.
- Milestones of Faith, a set of seven annual workshops for children and parents at specific developmental stages.
- Wednesday night rehearsals for the Christmas and spring musicals.
- Vacation Bible School, a week of music, games, crafts, and science held each summer for children who have finished 3K through grade four, with a separate VBXtreme track for fifth and sixth graders and a Work Crew option for youth in grades seven through twelve.
- The MomCo, a twice-monthly gathering for mothers that meets the first and third Thursdays from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. during the school year, with speakers, activities, service projects, and breakfast. Childcare is available for children six months through five years by pre-registration.
Safety is taken seriously. Every staff member and volunteer passes a criminal background check and completes MinistrySafe sexual abuse awareness training. No child is ever left alone with one adult. Staff and volunteers are trained in first aid, CPR, and AED, and they carry two-way radios at all times.
Youth Ministry
Tanya Naas, Youth Ministry Director, leads a program that stretches from sixth grade through high school. Maddy Hosni serves as Middle School Coordinator.
On Sunday mornings, middle schoolers meet in the Café from 10:15 to 11:00 a.m. for Sunday School with lessons from the Old and New Testaments. Confirmation for ninth graders happens in the same window, with weekly classes led by Pastor Scott. Students write a personal faith story and are welcomed into congregational membership in the spring.
Sunday evenings belong to Youth Group, which begins at 5:30 p.m. with open gym and youth worship team rehearsal and the formal program at 6:00 p.m. The night starts with youth-led worship in the Fireside Room, then splits into middle school and high school groups for games, small group time, and a lesson. High schoolers also have a monthly cooking series called At the Table that meets during regular youth group time in the church kitchen.
The worship teams for both middle and high school are open to any interested singers and instrumentalists. They rehearse before Youth Group on Sundays and lead youth worship time once a month.
Scholarships are available through the Hauser Campership Fund, which covers half of tuition for Christian camps, VBS, and the high school retreat known as The Great Escape. A separate Youth Scholarship Fund supports middle and high school trips, retreats, and mission experiences.
Adult Education and Small Groups
Sunday morning adult classes meet from 10:15 to 11:00 a.m. during the school year. Recent offerings include Catching the Torah: Life Changing Stories From Genesis to Deuteronomy, taught by Jeffrey Carlson. Short-term series rotate through the year, and an Exploring Membership class is offered three times annually for anyone considering joining Crossroads.

- Monday Morning Bible Study for women, first and third Mondays at 9:00 a.m.

- Moms Bible Study with Childcare on Mondays from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m.
- Mary & Martha Bible Study for mothers of school-age children on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m.
- Tuesday Morning Bible Study with senior women at 9:30 a.m.
- Tuesday Evening Bible Study on the first and third Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.
- Early Bird Bible Study on Thursdays at 8:30 a.m.
- Up-and-at-'em Bible Study for men on Monday mornings at 8:00 a.m.
- Brothers Seeking Balance for men on the first and third Tuesdays at 7:00 a.m.
- Saturday Morning Bible Study for men at 7:30 a.m.
Small groups are a core part of discipleship. Couples groups, a Veterans Study Group, and a young adults group (known informally as the young adoots) meet in person and on Zoom. Many groups welcome new members throughout the year.
Crossroads Christian Preschool
Tucked into the lower level of the church building, Crossroads Christian Preschool (CCP) is a state-licensed program serving two-year-olds (2K) and three-year-olds (3K). Director Maureen Leurquin has led the preschool since 2005. The mission is to nurture the whole child - physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually - while keeping Jesus at the center.
Classrooms maintain small ratios (two teachers and an aide or volunteer for twelve 2Ks or sixteen 3Ks). The program uses a state-licensed facility with security cameras and locked doors, a spacious classroom layout, an enclosed outdoor playground, and an indoor gym. Activities include weekly Bible time and daily prayers, large and small motor play, art, music twice a week with Worship Directors Todd and Jenee O'Connor, library time, letter and number recognition, pre-math and handwriting skills, and field trips. Parents participate through Mommy & Me Day and Donuts with Dads.
The 2K class meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m., and 3K meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. with a required Nature & Science Class on Fridays. Optional Lunch Bunch extends the day from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Children do not need to be potty trained for 2K; 3K students must be confidently potty trained.
Music and Worship Arts
Music ministry at Crossroads is large and intergenerational. Adult volunteers sing in the Worship Choir, which rehearses twice a month and leads worship once a month, with additional spots in the seasonal Festival Choir, the preschool and kindergarten Cherub Choir, and the grades one through five Joyful Noise Children's Choir. Praise bands, vocal ensembles, and instrumentalists rehearse midweek before their assigned Sundays.
Brass, strings, and woodwinds are woven into services in small groups and in the quarterly Festival Orchestra. The Chancel Ringers handbell choir rehearses on select Tuesdays and plays across a wide range of styles, with a Christmas Bell Ringers tradition on the Fourth Sunday of Advent. A/V team members, readers, liturgists, ushers, greeters, and sanctuary decorators round out the volunteer crew.
Care, Support, and Recovery
Deacons, elders, lay leaders, and the pastoral staff share the work of caring for the congregation. Prayer requests are shared through weekly handouts and the newsletter unless marked private.
Crossroads hosts several ongoing support groups that are open to the wider community:
- GriefShare, a thirteen-week program with single-session Loss of a Spouse and Surviving the Holidays gatherings.
- An Alzheimer's Support Group for caregivers, meeting on the third Tuesday of each month from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Conference Room.
- Women for Sobriety, a weekly recovery group for women that meets Mondays from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room.
Pastors visit members who cannot attend worship to bring home communion. Memorial and funeral services can be held in the sanctuary or the Fireside Room, with optional livestream and a simple reception hosted by the deacons. The Crossroads Memory Garden, a columbarium on the grounds, is available for the inurnment of cremated remains.
Mission and Outreach
The Mission Ministry Team describes Crossroads as an inclusive, just, and loving community mobilized to alleviate suffering and break cycles of poverty and marginalization. The church's Joseph Fund, named for the Genesis story of storing grain against future need, supports building and grounds projects such as a roofing replacement, solar panel installation, sanctuary screens, and air conditioning. A $300K replenishment drive ran through August and September 2026.
Local partners include:
- Family Sharing of Ozaukee County, where a grocery cart in the narthex collects nonperishable food each month.
- The Benedict Center, supporting women in the criminal justice system.
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ozaukee County.
- The Cathedral Center, where volunteers prepare and serve meals.
- Family Promise of Ozaukee County, one of seventeen congregations supporting shelter guests.
- Interfaith Caregivers of Ozaukee County, providing rides for seniors and people with disabilities.
- Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity through the Presbyterian Coalition.
- Tippecanoe Presbyterian Church's Divine Intervention Warming Shelter.
- Bread of Healing Clinic, which receives donated medical supplies through the narthex collection bins.
- His House Christian Fellowship, a campus ministry at the University of Michigan.
- Our Next Generation and SEA Literacy, partners in school-supply drives.
St. Ben's Chili Guys, an internal group that has met at Crossroads for more than fifteen years, turns donated venison into gallons of chili for St. Ben's daily meal program in Milwaukee. Mission Quilting and Craft Corps volunteers meet Wednesday mornings and the fourth Thursday of every month to knit quilts for shelters and members in need.
Mission trips over the years have included Native American relief work in Wyoming, Montana, and South Dakota; post-Katrina rebuilding in Slidell, Louisiana; IDEA Ministries in Cancún, Mexico; medical assistance in Africa, South America, and the Caribbean; and Fuller Disaster Relief ReBuilders in Asheville, North Carolina. The church also supports Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and the One Great Hour of Sharing special offering.
Beliefs and Governance
Crossroads' stated call is To Know Christ And Bring Others To Him. Its community vision, drawn from the Great Commission, is to be an intentional Christian community in which all people are invited and welcome and differences are acknowledged and respected in love, to the glory of God.
The congregation names four values:
- Inviting: a community where people of all generations and stages of life feel welcomed.
- Engaging: weekday opportunities to grow through fellowship, study, and mission beyond Sunday morning.
- Integrating: connecting the body of the church across generations through small groups, prayer, and accountability.
- Discipling: pairing invitation and community with service to the least and the lost.
Governance follows the PC(USA) model. The Session, the body of elders, oversees worship, education, mission, human resources, and administration. The board includes a youth elder and a youth deacon. Deacons are assigned families within a geographical zone and offer care to those who are ill, distressed, or lonely. Ordained leaders serve three-year rotating terms.
Facilities and Accessibility
The Crossroads campus is fully accessible, with handicap parking spots at the front doors, an elevator, and a hearing loop and ListenWIFI app in the sanctuary. The sanctuary seats 650 and the Fireside Room seats 60, and both can be reserved for memorial services and receptions, with optional livestream. Crossroads is an alcohol-free facility.
Crossroads hosts recovery and support groups, neighborhood gatherings, and concerts, and the building is often shared with community partners. Office hours run Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with closures for major holidays.
Giving and Getting Involved
Gifts to Crossroads support the operating fund, special projects, mission partners, and the Joseph Fund. Online giving through Realm accepts credit, debit, and ACH gifts. Text-to-give is available by texting CPC followed by the amount to 73256. Cash and check gifts can be placed in offering baskets or in giving envelopes at the Welcome Center. Non-cash gifts of stock and mutual funds are coordinated through the church office. A Legacy Giving program invites members to include Crossroads in estate plans.
Volunteers serve in worship, hospitality, operations, adult education, youth, children, and the preschool. The Building and Grounds Ministry coordinates spring and fall cleanups. A Beautification Crew tends the flower gardens on Tuesday mornings at 8:30 a.m. The Safety Team, IT Team, Money Counters, and SHED Team round out the operational volunteer corps.
