On the eastern edge of College Station, just off Rock Prairie Road, a low-slung sanctuary anchors Covenant Presbyterian Church, a congregation that calls itself "a group of believers committed to walking through life together with Jesus." Since 1999 the church has served the Bryan-College Station community as a member congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and its parking lot, classrooms, and fellowship hall have become a familiar hub for Brazos Valley missions, music, and children's programs.

A Merger on Rock Prairie Road

Covenant Presbyterian traces its lineage through two predecessor congregations. A&M Presbyterian Church was founded in 1923, and Trinity Presbyterian Church was established in 1996. In 1999 the two churches came together to form a new congregation, and on Easter Sunday 2001 the merged body held its first joint service in the present building on Rock Prairie Road. Two and a half decades later, the church carries forward both heritages while charting its own path as a PC(USA) congregation.

Sunday Worship at 10:30

Sunday morning centers on a single worship gathering at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. Members describe the service as relaxed, friendly, and warmly received, and the church itself describes the style plainly: "We are traditional in form and progressive in content." Each week the service is livestreamed on the congregation's YouTube channel so that homebound members and those traveling can join in.

Visitors are invited to come as they are. The sanctuary includes a designated "pray ground" on one side for families with small children, where wiggles, giggles, cries, and coos are welcome. Communion is offered as a regular part of worship, and the Lord's table is open to non-members.

Bible Study, Sundays and Wednesdays

Discipleship is woven through the week at Covenant. On Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m., the Uno Mass adult Sunday school class gathers for Bible discussion and conversation; the group is currently working through the study If You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat. On Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., the Disciple Bible Study meets, currently in the Disciple 4 study, walking participants carefully through Scripture over the course of the program.

The church uses the Contemporary English Version in worship, with the Revised Standard Version, New Revised Standard Version, and New International Version also available. Online Bibles through Bible.com and CSBible.com are suggested for anyone without a copy to hand.

Children, the Nursery, and the Pray Ground

Covenant makes space for every age on Sunday morning. Nursery care is offered during worship for little ones who need room to wiggle and giggle. Older children, from age 4 through 3rd grade, are invited to Children's Chapel after a brief Time with Young Disciples, where they explore a Bible story through song, art, reflection, and prayer before rejoining their families.

Alongside the Sunday programs, the church hosts AWANA, a Summer Fun Camp, and a Sports Camp, and the Covenant Presbyterian Childcare Center operates as a weekday early-childhood program on or near the church grounds, providing year-round care for local families.

Music and the Sanctuary Setting

Music is led by Director of Music Rebecca Walters, supported by accompanist Hyunsook Suk. The traditional liturgical shape of the service is paired with choir and congregational singing that members frequently cite as a high point of worship. For those who cannot be present, every service is broadcast live on YouTube and remains available to view afterward.

Care, Prayer, and the Blessing Box

Congregational care is a major expression of life at Covenant. The church maintains an active pastoral care system that visits homebound members, brings Communion to those who cannot attend, and stays in regular contact. A prayer ministry welcomes requests by phone, by written prayer card, or in person before, during, and after Sunday worship.

Out in the parking lot, a Blessing Box provides a place where anyone in the community can take what they need or leave what they can spare, a quiet extension of the congregation's daily ministry to its neighbors.

Missions Across the Brazos Valley

Covenant's missions footprint stretches across College Station, Bryan, and the wider Brazos Valley. Regular partners include:

Beyond the local area, the church supports Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and the Presbyterian Global Mission Agency. Children join the work too: Kids on a Mission gathers after worship to pack and assemble Birthday Cake Boxes for the Brazos Food Pantry, and families write letters to troops at the July 4th celebration.

Life Together: Men, Women, and the Wider Community

Small groups and fellowship ministries knit the congregation together across ages. Ladies Who Lunch meets at local restaurants, a Book Club gathers around recent novels, and a men's ministry complements women's fellowship and family programming. Meals and Missions evenings combine a shared meal with a hands-on mission project, from cards for new troops to flower pots for residents of a local retirement community. Periodically the whole church travels to Camp Allen near Navasota for an All Church Retreat.

Governance and PC(USA) Connection

Covenant is governed by its Session, a body of ruling elders elected from and by the congregation and moderated by an ordained clergy person, currently Interim Pastor Andy Blair. The Session meets monthly, with a Worship Committee and other committees supporting its work. The congregation belongs to the Presbytery of New Covenant, part of the Synod of the Sun within the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Membership is open through profession of faith, transfer from another Christian church, or reaffirmation of faith, after a conversation with the Session. Baptism from another denomination is accepted, and homebound membership is welcomed.

What Presbyterians Believe Here

Covenant identifies as a progressive Christian congregation within the Reformed tradition of the 16th-century Reformation. The church affirms the historic Presbyterian emphases on the authority of Scripture, the priesthood of all believers, and shared leadership for accountability, and subscribes to the PC(USA)'s A Brief Statement of Faith. Two sacraments are observed: Baptism, offered to people of all ages as a response to God's saving grace, and Communion, a memorial instituted by Christ and open to all who believe. Men and women share equally in the teaching, belief, and leadership of the congregation.

Giving as a Spiritual Discipline

The church teaches that stewardship of time, talents, and treasure is a spiritual practice, not merely a transaction. Gifts can be made online through the church's giving page, set up as an automatic bank draft, placed in the white church-shaped offering receptacle near the front entrance, or mailed to the office. As a PC(USA) congregation, Covenant also takes part in the denomination's four church-wide Special Offerings each year: One Great Hour of Sharing, the Pentecost Offering, the Peace & Global Witness Offering, and the Christmas Joy Offering.

Visitors arriving at 220 Rock Prairie Road find a covered drive-through entrance that leads directly into the sanctuary, making the building accessible to those with mobility limitations. The church office is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 to 5:30 p.m. A connect card on the church's site lets first-time guests share their name, ask questions, or request prayer before they ever step through the door.
