Sunday Worship at 11:00 AM
The Sunday gathering is the anchor of life at Cordova Neighborhood Church. The service begins at 11:00 AM in the building at 10600 Coloma Road and includes Bible reading, a message, prayer, and singing. On the first Sunday of each month the congregation observes communion together. Nursery care is offered during the service, and KidMin classes run at the same time for children from infancy through preschool and from kindergarten through fifth grade. Children are also welcome to remain with their parents or guardians in the main worship space.
Before the 11:00 service, the Coffee Hospitality team sets up coffee and donuts at 8:30 AM, and adult Sunday-morning classes meet around 9:15 to 9:30 for fellowship and study. These morning classes include a Women's Small Group that gathers from 9:15 to 10:45 AM for fellowship and a book study, and a Men's Small Group that meets at 9:30 AM and is currently working through the Book of Psalms. Middle and high school youth meet on Sundays at 9:30 AM as well.
For those who cannot attend in person, the service is livestreamed on the church's Facebook page, with the stream going live during the service itself. Recordings of recent Sunday services and shorter sermon clips are also posted on the Facebook page and on Vimeo, and an audio archive is available through the Sermon Video and Audio page on the church's site.
KidMin and the Next Generation
Cordova Neighborhood Church places a clear emphasis on its children and students. KidMin meets every Sunday during the 11:00 service in age-appropriate classrooms: one for infants through preschool and another for kindergarten through fifth grade. Children are welcome to join their families in the sanctuary instead if parents prefer.
For older students, the youth ministry is led by Youth Director Michael Washabaugh and follows a two-track schedule. On Sunday mornings, middle and high school students meet together at 9:30 AM. On Wednesday evenings, the two groups split: middle school youth gather from 6:30 to 7:30 PM and high school youth from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. The youth ministry maintains a presence on Instagram at @cncym, and the church keeps private Facebook groups for the Women's Ministry and PEP 55+ as well.
Small Groups Across the Week
Joining a small group is presented as the primary path for connection and spiritual growth at Cordova Neighborhood Church, and the congregation offers an unusually broad set of options that meet on different days, in different formats, and in different locations.
A co-ed small group meets on Wednesdays at 9:45 AM at the church building, and a parallel co-ed group meets via Zoom at 6:45 PM on Wednesdays; both groups are working through the Book of John. Home Groups extend small-group life into three neighborhoods: one meets at Dawn King's home on the first and third Mondays at 6:00 PM, another meets at Mike and Lina Washabaugh's home every other Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and a third meets at Mary Kelley's home on the second and fourth Thursdays from 2:30 to 4:30 PM. Each home group is facilitated by a lay couple or pair.
Two interest-based groups round out the week. Joyous Crafters, a fiber arts group for people who enjoy threads, string, yarn, and similar crafts, meets on the first and third Thursdays at 2:00 PM. Friday Game Night happens on the last Friday of each month from 8:00 PM to midnight; games are played, kids and youth are welcome when accompanied by an adult, and participants are invited to come for a portion of the evening or stay for the whole thing.
PEP 55+ and Senior Life
PEP 55+ stands for People Encouraging People, age 55 and older, and is the church's expression of its commitment to seniors. The group is described as a community of dedicated and joyful adults who are active in nearly every area of church ministry and leadership. In addition to serving, PEP 55+ members enjoy outings together to concerts, plays, picnics, and other places of interest, and every senior is welcome to join in.
The group has its own private Facebook page and gathers weekly for a time of fellowship and devotion at a local Denny's on Thursdays at 10:00 AM. Seniors are integrated into the wider church through Susan Wright, who serves as both Seniors' Pastor and Women's Pastor.
Women's and Men's Ministries
Cordova Neighborhood Church maintains a full Women's Ministry under Susan Wright that gives women multiple ways to connect and support one another. Bible studies, a Women's Retreat, an Annual Missionary Tea, and a Christmas Party fill out the calendar, and the ministry operates its own private Facebook group.
The Men's Ministry centers on the Sunday morning Men's Small Group studying the Book of Psalms and the wisdom it offers for Christian men today, alongside participation in the broader church, including the Saturday morning men's breakfast that is part of the annual Missions Week.
Caring for the Neighborhood
The Neighborhood page of the church's site makes clear that local outreach is central to the congregation's identity. Two practical efforts carry most of that work.
Throughout the year, Cordova Neighborhood Church hosts canned food drives and sock drives, collecting unexpired canned and non-perishable goods and clean, unused socks for those in need. Donations are gathered on a recurring schedule, and the Events page lists the next collection as it approaches.
The Benevolent Fund channels a portion of giving each month to the Rancho Cordova Food Locker and to C&MA Services, with additional funds available for people within the congregation who face financial need. Contributions to this fund can be designated through the church's giving options. The Meals Ministry, another hands-on expression of care, prepares meals for congregation members who are recovering from surgery or experiencing deep hardship, supported by a team of volunteers coordinated through Pastor Susan Wright.
Beyond the Neighborhood: Missions and the Wider Church
Cordova Neighborhood Church is affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, and the connection shapes its outward-facing ministry. The church allocates giving to the C&MA Great Commission Fund, which supports international workers worldwide, and displays information about the missionaries and groups it supports on a World Outreach area near the entryway.
Every spring, Missions Week brings an invited missionary or missionary couple to share their daily life and ministry. The week includes a visit to Youth Group on Wednesday night, the PEP 55+ potluck on Thursday morning, the men's breakfast on Saturday morning at 9:00 AM, and the Women's Missionary Tea from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Saturday, with a congregational potluck on Saturday evening in some years. Mission Sunday closes the week. The exact format varies from year to year, but the week is a fixture on the church calendar.
In the lead-up to Advent each year, the church participates in Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan's Purse, providing boxes, labels, and item lists so that congregation members can pack gifts for children in need around the world.
What the Church Believes
Cordova Neighborhood Church holds to a written Statement of Faith in its constitution. The church teaches that the Old and New Testament Scriptures are verbally inspired by God and inerrant in their original writings, and that they are the supreme and final authority in faith and life. It affirms belief in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The church confesses that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man; that the Lord Jesus Christ died for sins as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe on Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood; and that He rose again bodily, ascended into heaven, and now serves as the believer's High Priest and Advocate.
The church looks for the personal and imminent return of Jesus Christ, teaches the bodily resurrection of the just and unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost, and holds that all who receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith are born again of the Holy Spirit and become children of God. It also teaches that human beings were created in the image of God, that humanity sinned and thereby incurred physical and spiritual death, and that all are born with a sinful nature.
The Statement of Faith also addresses marriage and sexual ethics. The church teaches that marriage was created by God as the exclusive covenantal union of one man and one woman for life, and that legitimate sexual relations are exercised solely within marriage. The statement names adultery, premarital sex, homosexuality, and pedophilia as inconsistent with biblical teaching, alongside lascivious conduct, transgender behavior, and pornography, while emphasizing that the gospel is full of grace and truth, offering forgiveness and calling believers to a holy life.
Leaders and Staff
The pastoral team is led by Joel Mattsson-Bozé, who serves as Lead Pastor. Michael Washabaugh is the Youth Director, and Susan Wright serves as both Seniors' Pastor and Women's Pastor.
An Elder Board oversees the spiritual direction and care of the church and includes John Gossard, Don Smith (who also serves as Building and Grounds Manager), and Jeff Davies. A Governing Board of Directors handles the church's finances and property and includes the Senior Pastor, a Treasurer (Bobbi Tweedy), a Chair (Mary Kelley), a Secretary (Dawn King), a Correspondence secretary (Kathy Riordan), a Facilities Manager (Susan Wait-Thompson), and additional board members.

Giving and Practicalities
Cordova Neighborhood Church does not pass an offering plate during services. Instead, two offering boxes are located in the church lobby, and envelopes are available in the pew racks for those who wish to record their gift for tax purposes or designate how it should be used.
