Two Sunday Mornings on a Hilltop
The Christians Church at Cogan Station meets at 5904 Lycoming Creek Road, right on top of a hill a short drive north of Williamsport. Drivers from town reach the building in about fifteen minutes. The church holds two Sunday services, at 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM, and the same order of worship runs at both. The full name on the sign out front is simply The Christians Church at Cogan Station, though staff and members often shorten it to CCCS.
The church's tagline sums up its aim: Love God, Love Others. Members describe their community as a place where life is better when walked together, where people are exploring faith and where others are diving deeper, and where the goal is helping people encounter Jesus, build authentic relationships, and live with purpose.
What a Sunday Service Looks Like
A typical service lasts about seventy minutes and centers on practical, Bible-based teaching. Music is a blend of contemporary songs and more traditional hymns, with the goal of creating a space that feels both meaningful and accessible. Communion is observed every week; believers who wish to participate pick up a cup from the tables in the back of the auditorium before the service.
The auditorium is the main gathering space, with a Children's Wing tucked into the building for younger guests. First-time visitors are greeted at a Welcome desk in the lobby and invited to fill out a connection card so the church can follow up.
A Place That Takes Kids Seriously
The church is unusually deliberate about children. Ms. Monica, the Children's Ministry Leader, stands ready at the front doors to greet families, answer questions, help with check-in, and give a tour of the Children's Wing. Programming runs for children from six months old through sixth grade every weekend.
Safety is built into the system. Children check in through a secure check-in process, first-time guests using a parent's phone number, and each child receives a name tag. If a parent is needed during the service, the children's team sends a text, so phones stay on silent or vibrate. Every volunteer is background-checked, and many hold CPR and child-safety certifications.
The youngest guests, six months through preschool, use the nursery in the Children's Wing with easy drop-off and pick-up. A separate quiet room is set aside for moms with newborns. Children in kindergarten through sixth grade start in the basement for worship and then rotate through age-appropriate activities. The rotation changes each week: Bible Drill on the first Sunday, Jumpstart on the second and third, KidJam on the fourth, and Game Day when the calendar offers a fifth Sunday. The bulletin lists where each child is during the hour. Parents who would rather keep a child with them in the auditorium are welcome to do so.
Ignite Youth on Wednesdays
Middle and high school students have their own gathering called Ignite Youth. The group is open to students in grades 7 through 12. Doors open at 6:00 PM on Wednesday evenings and the program runs from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. Each night includes time to hang out, build friendships, and grow through Bible teaching and small group discussion. Gabe Ramirez, the Student Minister Leader, oversees the ministry and stays in touch with parents by email.
Young Adults, Women, and Small Groups
A Young Adult Ministry gathers anyone between 18 and 28 who is navigating early adulthood, asking big questions, or looking for community. The group meets through small groups and occasional events and is open to students, those in the workforce, and those figuring out what comes next. Gabe also helps connect newcomers here.
The Women's Ministry, led by Kristen Steppe, gathers women around the theme Growing in Grace and Gratitude. Small groups meet throughout the week as a way for adults of every age and stage to build the kind of Biblical community the church's statement of beliefs describes.
What the Church Believes
The Beliefs page walks through nine core convictions in plain language. The church teaches that one eternal God exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that this God created everything. Jesus is the eternal Son who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, was crucified, and rose bodily three days later; He now mediates between God and people and will return visibly at the end of time. The Holy Spirit lives in every Christ follower, guiding them in understanding the Bible and shaping them to become more like Jesus.
People, the church teaches, are created in God's image and deeply loved, yet every person has chosen disobedience and stands under God's judgment. Salvation is a gift, made possible by Jesus dying in our place, and is personally received through trusting Him, turning from a self-centered life, verbally declaring faith, and being baptized. The sixty-six books of the Bible are seen as God's only message to people, accurate and final. The Christian life is described as a growing relationship marked by Bible reading, prayer, fellowship, and a desire to serve. The church itself is pictured as a body of believers who meet weekly to celebrate God's love, learn Scripture, pray, and remember Jesus through communion.
Missions Around the World
Matthew 28:19, the Great Commission, anchors the Missions page. The church supports a wide network of missionaries and ministry partners, including Alberto Rivas with Christian Dominican Evangelistic Mission, Wisdom and Rebecca Nyador with Ghana Christian Mission, Rana and Simi Samuel with Passion Ministries, Larry and Sharon Freed with One Mission Society, John and Cheryl Dunn with Home of God's Love, Tim and Kate Jackson with Impact Ministries, David and Lydia with Myanmar Christian Mission, and Michele Marte with Ministerio Mas Que Creyentes. Local and specialized partners include Sylvan Hills Christian Camp, Far East Broadcasting, Winslow Christian School, The Voice of the Martyrs, Pioneer Bible Translators, and Scriptures in Use.
