From the Snohomish Valley to Fryelands Blvd, Monroe
Cascade Community Church sits on Fryelands Boulevard in Monroe, Washington, directly across from Lake Tye. The church family describes itself as a community learning to Love God, Love People, and Live Generously, a motto the staff calls the L3 values, and the shorthand used on everything from a merch line to a discipleship strategy. Sundays bring three identical services at 8:00, 9:30, and 11:15 am, with classes for children during the two later services.
A Church Plant That Took Root in 1997
Cascade began in the hearts of several families who believed God was doing something distinctive in the Snohomish Valley in 1993. Four years later, in February 1997, the church officially started gathering in the industrial park area of Monroe, just up the road from its present campus. The congregation moved to its present site in 2000. Cascade is a daughter church of Northshore Community Church in Bothell and is affiliated with Converge Worldwide, taking part in the Converge Northwest church network.
What Sundays Are Like
Visitors can park on the church lot, in neighboring business-park lots that the church's neighbors make available on Sundays, or along 167th Avenue SE. The team recommends arriving about ten minutes before the chosen service. Greeted at the door, first-time guests are encouraged to stop at the Welcome Center, where hosts can point the way to the Worship Center, restrooms, and the children's check-in desks. Casual attire fits the laid-back environment. Each service includes congregational worship and teaching from the Bible; the worship team chooses music that honors God, draws people closer to him, and reflects biblical truth. Communion is observed together on the first Sunday of every month.
Cascade Kids and Students
Cascade Kids offers a safe, fun environment for children from nursery through fifth grade. Early Childhood (Nursery through Pre-K) and Elementary (K through 5) classes meet during the 9:30 and 11:15 am services. Volunteers staff the Elementary Check-in and Early Childhood Check-in, and the Welcome Center can help families find their way. For older students, the Students ministry runs a middle school and high school youth group.
Life Groups, Men, and Women
Adults can plug into Cascade through several ongoing avenues. Life Groups are the church's small-group ministry, smaller gatherings designed for people to know and be known. Cascade Women walks with women being transformed by Jesus, and Cascade Men exists to equip and encourage men. Hope Groups offer encouragement through life's difficulties, and Classes (including Alpha, a marriage class, a grandparenting summit, and one-day "How To" courses) provide deeper study. The church also provides the church family with unlimited access to RightNow Media, a streaming library of more than 20,000 video Bible study resources.
The Treasure Chest and Foster & Adoption Ministry
Cascade's Foster & Adoption Care Ministry supports families involved in fostering, adoption, and kinship care. A Foster Care Support Group meets on the third Friday of each month from September through May, 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Main Building, Room 101; continuing-education hours and childcare are provided. The Treasure Chest, located on the south side of the Community Life Center, gives free clothing and essentials to foster, adoptive, and relative caregivers. It is open the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, and after-hours appointments can be arranged. Gently used donations are welcome at the shop during open hours.
Biblical Care and Celebrate Recovery
For those walking through hard seasons, the Biblical Care ministry offers counseling grounded in Scripture. Ali Anderson directs the program, and a team provides counsel through the biblicalcounseling@cascadechurch.org address. Celebrate Recovery, a Christ-centered recovery program, meets on campus as well, serving anyone working through hurts, habits, or hang-ups.
Disciple-Making, Outreach, and Worship Arts
Cascade's stated conviction is that every Christian is a disciple and every disciple is called to be a disciple-maker. The Disciple-Making ministry centers on that Great Commission calling. Outreach & Missions coordinates work locally and globally under the banner of "here, near, and far." The Worship Arts ministry, under Worship Pastor Scott Anderson, leads the congregational music on Sundays, and messages are available to watch online through the church's livestream.
Baptism and Membership
Baptism is described as a powerful public declaration of faith, symbolizing the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Cascade performs baptisms on Sunday mornings and at a special outdoor event in August. Membership is presented as ownership, in which each member contributes a critical role to the body. A two-week membership class is offered periodically.
Leadership
Michael Lodge serves as Speaking Pastor and Elder, with Kirk Gendron as Executive Pastor and Elder, John Reynolds as Adult Ministries Pastor, Dan Bushy as Associate Pastor and Missionary, and David Bustamante as Men's Director and Elder. Scott Anderson leads worship. The Elder Board includes Brian Clem, Kerry Cruze, Gabe Pickens, Don Layson, and Chairman Bill Snyder. Ali Anderson directs that care work, Heather Chadwick and Shawna Atterbury coordinate Cascade Kids and Early Childhood, and Kimberly Clem serves as Community Care Director.
