Forty Years on White Oak Lane

Calvary Chapel Old Bridge sits on White Oak Lane in Old Bridge Township, a community in central New Jersey's Middlesex County. From a single campus here, Senior Pastor Lloyd Pulley has shepherded the same congregation for forty years, a continuity that has shaped everything else the church has become, from a daily radio reach across the country to an affiliated school and a pregnancy resource center next door.

Lloyd Pulley serves as Senior Pastor. He is the author of Under His Influence, Everyday Conversations: Eternal Impact, and the Be Still 30 Day Devotional, and is heard daily on the Bridging the Gap radio program and on weekdays during Bridge Bible Talk. Around him, the pastoral team includes Assistant Pastors Don Quiles (who also serves as CFO and as superintendent of the affiliated school), Robert Baltodano (Broadcasting Media), and Brien Dunphy (Internal Ministries and deputy superintendent). Calvary Chapel Old Bridge describes itself as a non-denominational fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Three Beats: Exalt, Equip, Engage

Anyone who spends time on the campus encounters the same three words on repeat: Exalt the Lord, Equip the people, Engage the world. They are the ministry priorities Pastor Lloyd has set, and they ripple outward into nearly everything the church runs.

Exalt the Lord plays out through corporate worship every time the church gathers: through music, prayer, and the preaching of the Word. Equip the people is the teaching ministry. Calvary Chapel Old Bridge is widely known in the area for walking through books of the Bible verse by verse rather than working through thematically-tied series. Engage the world is where everything from the daily radio broadcast to the food pantry to short-term international mission trips fits.

A Week of Gatherings

The weekly rhythm is built around three gathering points. Saturday evening worship is at 6:00 PM. Sunday morning offers two services at 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM, with live Spanish interpretation during the 10:30 AM gathering. Wednesday night worship begins at 7:00 PM, with a one-hour intercessory prayer meeting preceding it at 6:00 PM in the prayer room. The church also runs a Sunday-evening small-group meeting called Sundown at Calvary that gathers informally at 6:00 PM in the church cafe.

Hearing-impaired listening devices are available at all services. Services typically last about 90 minutes and include a mix of musical worship and verse-by-verse teaching from Pastor Lloyd. The Calvary Cafe operates before and after every gathering, and a greeters team welcomes first-time visitors at the doors.

Verse by Verse Through the Bible

One of the defining marks of the church, by its own account, is teaching God's Word verse by verse. The sermon library stretches back years, and a current archive is published on YouTube and as a podcast. A separate Spanish-translation podcast of the weekend messages reaches listeners who prefer to study in Spanish.

For those who want to study on their own, the church publishes a One Year Bible Challenge that walks through Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs readings each day. Each scheduled day comes with a written commentary by Pastor Lloyd that points to a corresponding audio teaching, an accompanying prayer, a featured quote (drawn from writers like C.S. Lewis, Spurgeon, Tozer, and Corrie ten Boom), and a worship song chosen to reflect that day's reading.

Vida Eterna: A Spanish-Speaking Family

For Spanish-speaking believers in central New Jersey, Calvary Chapel Old Bridge runs Vida Eterna (Ministerio Latino), led by Associate Pastor Francisco González. Each Sunday morning, the 10:30 AM service includes live English-to-Spanish interpretation.

Two weekday Bible studies provide Spanish-language equipping. The men's group meets the first and third Friday of each month at 7:30 PM in the prayer room, while the women's group meets the second and fourth Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM in Chapel Room A. Vida Eterna's stated vision is to glorify God by teaching His Word in Spanish to the Latino community and to send those equipped believers back out to reach others in their own networks.

From Nursery to Pioneer Clubs

Children's ministry runs before and during every regular service. The nursery welcomes children from birth through age 3, staffed by adults and responsible teens who receive full training. The Children's Ministry itself serves ages 3 through 12 and meets at the same time as adult worship. Rather than babysitting, the church explains, Children's Church is meant to give children the same worship and Bible teaching the adults receive, just at their own level. Lessons use songs, crafts, activities, and small-group instruction, all from a defined curriculum.

AWANA, the international children's club program, runs on Wednesday evenings during the midweek service. Children from age 3 through fifth grade are sorted into Cubbies (ages 3 to 4), Sparks (kindergarten through second grade), and Truth and Training (third through fifth grade). Each club night includes Handbook Time for scripture memorization, Game Time, and Council Time with an age-appropriate Bible lesson. Pioneer Clubs is the church's girls-only counterpart and meets Tuesday evenings during the school year for girls ages 5 through 13. Trail Life USA, the outdoor adventure and character-development program for boys, also meets Tuesday evenings and welcomes kindergarten through twelfth grade.

For families with children who have special needs, Beyond Limits pairs each child with a one-on-one "best buddy" adult who stays with them throughout the 10:30 AM Sunday service. Calvary Christian School, a separate K-12 ministry of the church, partners with parents in disciplining their children. A Home Education Group serves as a support and fellowship network for homeschooling families, and a Caring for His Children ministry supports families considering or already pursuing adoption or foster care.

Ignite, Impact, and Calvary Young Adults

Junior high students gather at IGNITE on Wednesday evenings during the midweek service. High school students gather at IMPACT on Friday nights at 7:30 PM. Both programs emphasize learning about Jesus in community with same-age peers.

Calvary Young Adults (CYA) is the college-and-twenties ministry. It is open to adults who are out of high school through age 30 and meets the first and third Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Teen Center. Home groups meet on the off-weeks. The ministry describes its own goal as helping the spiritually dead come alive and the spiritually alive come awake.

Men, Women, and the Home Group Network

The men's and women's ministries are large, structured programs with their own Bible studies, retreats, and small groups. The women's Bible study meets every Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM and Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM during the fall-through-spring study year; childcare is provided for the morning session. Other women's events through the year include a dessert night and a weekend retreat. A Moms Group, a fellowship for mothers of young children, meets the first Friday of each month from 10:00 AM to noon in the Calvary Cafe, with childcare provided for ages 0 through 10.

The men's ministry runs a structured lineup of home groups across central New Jersey, in Carteret, East Brunswick, Freehold, Matawan, Manalapan, Monmouth Junction, Old Bridge, and Piscataway, each currently studying a different book of the Bible. Men's events through the year include a Men's Retreat, flag football, pickleball, cornhole, and a Car and Bike Fellowship. The ministry also leads weekday Zoom prayer sessions: morning prayer Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5:45 AM, brief lunch prayers each weekday, and evening prayer Monday and Thursday at 9:00 PM.

Discipleship Home Groups are the church's main small-group system and gather six to twelve people in homes around central New Jersey for Bible study, prayer, discipleship, and fellowship. Mixed groups, men's groups, and women's groups are all available, and newcomers are welcome regardless of whether CCOB is their home church.

The Bridge: Radio, Bible Talk, and a National Footprint

Perhaps more than any other feature, the suite of Bridge ministries sets Calvary Chapel Old Bridge apart. The Bridge is a Christian radio station whose mission is to reach souls with the life-changing message of the Gospel. Bridge Bible Talk is the station's first-ever live call-in program, airing weekdays with Pastor Robert Baltodano and Senior Pastor Lloyd Pulley taking questions on the Bible and Christian living. The Bridging the Gap with Pastor Lloyd radio program airs on more than 100 stations across the United States and is available as a podcast.

The Bridging the Gap also serves as the home of Pastor Lloyd's written Bible-teaching ministry and a small online store. The sermon library from Calvary Chapel Old Bridge is published on YouTube and as a podcast, with a separate Spanish-translation podcast of the weekend messages.

Standing With the Community: Outreach and the Bridge Brand

Around the campus and the wider community, the Bridge name covers several affiliated nonprofit ministries. Bridge Women's Center provides pregnancy testing, options counseling, and material support for those facing unplanned pregnancies or unsure whether they are pregnant. BridgeLife Thrift Store, located in Matawan, New Jersey, raises revenue for these ministries and offers affordable goods to the community.

Closer to the church, the Broken Loaves food pantry distributes food to anyone in need who is struggling to make ends meet; pick-ups happen on Friday mornings and evenings by appointment. Calvary Relief exists to help those devastated by disasters or in critical situations, sharing the hope and love of Jesus. The Evangelism team equips members for personal, patient Gospel conversations. A Nursing Home Ministry visits elderly people living in area nursing homes. Medical Missions demonstrates Christ's love and compassion through health-care service, sending both short- and long-term medical volunteers overseas. Riders for Christ meets Monday nights at 7:00 PM for Bible study and fellowship and hosts an annual Ride for Life each fall to benefit Bridge Women's Center.

Counseling, Recovery, and Grief Care

The Biblical Counseling ministry provides confidential, Bible-based counseling for those who reach out. Pre-Marital Counseling is required for engaged couples who want a Calvary pastor or elder to officiate their wedding, consisting of six to eight sessions. The Marriage Ministry supports and trains married and engaged couples year-round, and Marital Biblical Counseling is available.

For those struggling with addiction, Ground Zero is a ministry for serious substance abuse, and Addiction to Freedom is a weekly Monday-evening meeting at 7:00 PM in the Teen Center. Healing Hearts, the church's grief recovery ministry, holds classes throughout the year and offers individual counseling for those walking through loss.

The One Year Bible Challenge

Beyond Sunday services, the church encourages a daily walk through Scripture. The One Year Bible Challenge is a church-wide reading plan based on the YouVersion Old Testament and New Testament in a Year plan, with daily commentary by Pastor Lloyd, prayers, quotes, and worship songs prepared for each day's reading. A Daily Post email delivers resources to participants' inboxes, and a Facebook discussion group connects readers with one another. As the church begins each new book, a brief summary helps readers place it in its context before they start.
