On Becks Church Road Since the 1880s
Beck's Baptist Church stands on Becks Church Road in northern Winston-Salem, where for more than 140 years the congregation has proclaimed the good news of Jesus Christ. The church describes itself as a family of broken, imperfect people with every kind of story imaginable, gathered around a single purpose: to see God glorified by all peoples in all places as disciples make disciples for God's glory and their joy.
Sunday Morning at Beck's
Sunday School meets at 9:00 and wraps at 9:45, and the whole church gathers for worship at 10:00. The hour follows a familiar Baptist shape: singing, public reading of Scripture, prayer, and a sermon from the pastor. Visitors are simply told to come as they are. The service is also livestreamed each Sunday at 10:00 through the church's Facebook page, so anyone who cannot attend in person can join in real time. Giving is available online for those who want to support the ministry.
Kids in Action and Sunday Bible Classes
The children's ministry welcomes kids from crawling babies through late elementary years, with Sunday morning Bible classes designed to help children learn the truth about Jesus in a way they enjoy and understand. On Wednesday evenings, Kids in Action runs from 5:30 to 7:30 and meets each Wednesday that Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools hold class, giving kids a midweek place to belong.
Student Ministry on Sundays and Wednesdays
Middle and high school students join breakfast and Sunday School at 9:00 each Sunday, then return on Wednesday nights from 6:00 to 8:00 in the church gym. The Wednesday rhythm includes games, snacks, worship music, and Bible study, with the broader aim of helping students grow into lifelong disciples who know, follow, and share Christ in every aspect of life.
College and Career
For young adults stepping into college and the working years, Beck's runs a College and Career ministry that walks alongside them in the same disciple-making purpose that shapes the rest of the church.
What Beck's Believes
The statement of faith is built on twelve articles and points to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 as the fuller confession. Scripture is taught as God-breathed and trustworthy, with Christ as its focus. There is one true God, infinite in holiness, revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit without division of nature or essence. Jesus Christ, the eternal Son, was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary; he lived a perfect life, died on the cross as a substitute for sinners, rose again, ascended to heaven, and will return personally and visibly in glory to judge the world. The Holy Spirit inspired Scripture, convicts of sin, regenerates believers, and indwells the church as the guarantee that God will complete his work in them.
Regeneration, or the new birth, is a grace-work of the Holy Spirit through repentance and faith. The church is a New Testament congregation of baptized believers, autonomous and associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel, observing the two ordinances of believer's baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper. Christian conduct calls believers to make the will of Christ supreme in life and society, to oppose racism and every form of greed, selfishness, and sexual immorality, to care for the orphaned, needy, abused, aged, helpless, and sick, and to contend for the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death. The church also affirms religious liberty, the separation of church and state, voluntary cooperation among congregations for missions and benevolence, and the promise of Christ's return, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal reward or judgment.
Outreach, Missions, and Prayer
Steve Stone serves as Minister to Outreach and Missions. He and his wife Frances have been married for 51 years; they have two grown children, Stephen Jr. and Susan, and three grandsons. Raised in Mount Airy by Frank and Annie Belle, Stone served four years in the Marine Corps and retired from Sherwin-Williams after 33 years. At 53, he graduated from High Point University with a major in history and a minor in religion. His heart for serving and working with young people shapes his aim: to see the kingdom of God grow and the church become more like Christ in everything it does.
Anyone can submit a prayer request through the church's online form. Pastors and prayer teams pray over every request, whether sent in or submitted online, multiple times each week.
Reading Plans, Resources, and Giving
The Resources page pulls together material under five headings: Bible Reading Plans, Doctrine and Theology, The Church, Family Discipleship, and Evangelism. Four Bible reading plans are offered in printable PDF form: the Robert Murray M'Cheyne plan, which covers the Old Testament once and the New Testament and Psalms twice in a year; a chronological plan that walks through Scripture in the order events unfolded; a three-year plan that breaks the Bible into smaller daily portions; and a 90-day plan for readers who can give 30 to 60 minutes a day. Online giving supports the work of transforming the community, the next generation, and the nations through Jesus Christ.
